2004 C2500 HD, Duramax/Allison 4Dr Pick up.
After stopping at a traffic light, upon taking off, it feels like there is slack in the drive train. I have noticed this a lot.
Any ideas. U-joints are fine.

Sorry, but did you read that THIS forum is a 6.5 TD forum and not a Duramax forum ? Nothing against the newer diesels, but i think here aren't enough people who can answer your questions, because nobody here drives or got such an truck / engine combo.

DieselPlace is a good forum for your question...... They seem to cater mostly to the D-max and leave us 6.5 guys in the lurch..... which is why this site exists! :D
I don't think many of us could afford a D-Max, or else we'd have one! :D

Yeah man you're not kidding. Just the engine alone is a $6,000 dollar option (the new duramax).

Well, the 6.5 was a $7,000 option in 95 when my folks bought our truck (1500 with a 305 gas V8 in it.... Great little truck I might add... I'd put it up against any 1-ton of it's era for occasional heavy work.)

I couldnt imagine paying that for a 6.5 now, but back then i guess it was probably worth it. 385ft lb isnt much for a diesel today. :(

Nope!
But better than the 285 lb-ft in the Naturally Aspirated HUMV engine!!

No, actually I typed Duramax into a google search, and came up with this site. Just never clicked that this was not a Duramax site. My aplogies.
But, believe me, I have had several of the 6.5 Turbo Diesels before. Last load of hay I was pulling out of Oklahoma, I got left at a dealership with a pump out on a holiday weekend. Had to rent a car to get home, and then rent one to get back the next week. We hit some of those hills in North East Ok, and we were down to 25 miles per hour. My son was only about 10 at the time. He kept saying, " Dad, I don't think we are going to make it!" I was beginning to have my doubts.
Later, when the overdrive went out in the transmission, I traded it in for a 6 liter gas engine. Big mistake! 10 mpg all the time, and piston slap, and no sympathy from GM. I swore that I would never own another GM truck. But my buddy that owns the dealership, took it on himself to buy my truck back and put me in the Duramax. God bless him! Took him a year to sell my old truck. I wouldn't take for my new ( 2004) truck. 20mpg on the highway, and I recently pulled a load of hay home that grossed 27,000lbs. ( Hay and trailer) I could run 70mph with no problem.
Later guys. I will go find the Duramax site now. :)
