I got 5" Mite and 5" Aussie they easily unbolt and bolt into the Y pipe kit i ordered... I recently put my catalytic converter back on because i was sick of getting a head ache after driving. Sounds amazing either way, I plan on getting the curved tops soon.. or 6"mites that turn into 5" at the bottom.. Its worth it and you can still hear the turbo ;)

You guys must be doin somethin wrong!! My truck with the 3" ford system (no cat) has insane turbo whistle, but the engine noise is less than with the cat...
With the cat on, (and nothing else! :D ) I couldn't hear the turbo for anything.. And that's with the exhaust dumping right under the passenger floorboard.......

well that may be true that your ford has insane turbo wistle but a stock ford or dodge turbo pushes up to about 20psi on a 93 chevy the stock is supposed to do only 7-12,, ,,mine isnt stock so i dont have to worry but i was just wanderin...my 6.5 sounds like a semi commin at you....well a really noisy nocky semi but semi nonthe less.... its got pleanty of turbo wistle but i want to keep it that way and wasnt sure if stacks would take that out of it or not... if guess if so then its bigger turbo time!!!!!!!!!!!

Stacks!!!:) and no 6.5 has insane turbo whiste with any gmX series turbo, but opening up the exhaust at least lets you hear it spooling.

No, No, I don't have a Ford!! AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:D
I have a ford exhaust system on the 6.5... Was cheap ($60) and flows waaayyyy better than the stock 2.75" with cat and crap...
As far as how insane the turbo whistle is, I guess thats objective... Compared to my Mercedes which has an in-audible turbo, it's insane....
No, not like a Powerstroke 6.0....... It never will be because a 'Stroke uses a VNT turbo that spools down low which is why they whistle even at idle...... But still VERY noticeable...... And that's with a tailpipe exhaust... If you're dumping in the air behind the cab at ear level, you should have NO problems hearing your turbo without the cat.. ;)

The old 528TI BMW's were the same way Deere. Couldnt hear the turbo, but could tell when it started making boost.

hmmm good point bout the ford thing haha.... im not so sure that 93 6.5's have cats mine didnt...but that may have been takin off by the previous owner for better air flow...i was told by a diesel shop that the 6.5's biggest problem power wise was that they just couldn;t move the air they needed to....so in turn i cut off the pipe...

another question to rattle your brains.....what do you think is more practicle 100 horse injecters or go big with the 325's.... i wnat more power and a shit load of smoke.....my buddie with a 2000 6.5 has 100's and smokes like a bitch but since mine is pre-computer (which ='s more power capable) i didnt know if i turned my timining anothe 15-20 degrees faster if the 325's would be better?????

I'd go with the Marine injectors (I think that's what you're referring to as 325's? ) because they're not too much more than stockers.......
If your buddy's truck smokes that bad, it means one thing, not enough boost.. A 6.5 WILL NOT BILLOW SMOKE if the boost level is right.. The pumps just physically cant move that much fuel.. A little puff when you get on it, and maybe some at high revs as you dislodge carbon deposits, but no more.... If it WAS billowing clouds of smoke with correct boost, you'd be meltin' stuff down.......
As far as timing advancement, a little goes along way.. I advanced the timing on my Mercedes about 5 degrees and it knocked so bad it was terrible... Had good power, but when you go to far you have fuel trying to expand while the piston is still moving upwards... Cylinder pressures can get real dangerous real fast doing that...... Things don't last long......
On 6.5's, about 1-2 degrees seems the maximum feasible advancement...(Interestingly, that's exactly how much I'm running my Mercedes advanced, and it really likes it.....)

I agree with deerefanatic on the advance, doesn't take too much advance to make a good engine burn oil.

Or do what the guy at the local diesel shop did..... He had a customer that wanted a radical tune on his Cummins..... The shop owner custom tuned it........
Fast forward a few months..... Customer comes BANGING into the parking lot... Long story short? The cylinder pressures got so hi that the engine cracked the wrist pin mount webbing and the ring lands on pistons 1 & 2... EGT's never got hi, not melting..... Just damage from basically having the piston's get crushed by the extreme cylinder pressures.....
Customer was really disappointed...... Not that he had to pay to have the engine fixed, but because "he guessed he'd have to give up some of that power"...... Makes yah feel really sorry for him doesn't it?

so do i understand this rite advancing the timeing 1 or 2 degrees can get me more power? im new into this
grancito

Yes, but it puts too much stress on the engine and causes high oil consuption.

About 1 degree of advance is usually considered safe.... On the passenger car diesels, 2 degrees is agreed to be safe as they are tuned a little late to help negate smoke...... At the expense of power... (Let me tell ya, a mercedes 5 cylinder will smoke like a cummins at idle when you advance to timing 5 degrees!! :D Don't ask how I know! :D )

so if i advance my timing 1 degee it will give me more power and it wont be hard on my motor?
deerefanatic
10-27-2007, 08:08 AM
Well, yes, a little more power and smoke.......
It won't be as hard on the motor than say, 2 or more degrees... :) Any performance mod is hard on the motor, it's a matter of how hard... I would think that 1 degree should be pretty safe..... But then again, it won't get you much power either.... Safety has it's drawbacks! :D

So do you know how far "1 degree" is? Its about .5mm rotation. Scribe the pump and take your time.

so i feel kiinda dumb but im just getting into diesels and how the hell do you advance the timing i mean i know how to do that on a gas motor can some one help me out?:(

On the flange of the injector pump where it bolts to the engine, there are 3 bolts, one under, diffficult to get at, loosen them and turn the pump to the driver side. Not easy as the injector pipes restrict movement, but you will get a couple of degrees no problem.

Wow talk about some precision.

ohh hell with safty haha...just undo the bolts and start turnin thats what the diesel shop did to mine while i was standen there on this engine to get it timed up right we had to take it to them and undid the bolt and turnied it(we didnt have it turned enough) but i figure another 5-10 degrees will do it some good or blow it sky high (either way im happy)

That's one way to do it I guess!! :D :D

were do you get bigger injectors?
other than from ss diesel

why happy if ya blow it sky high? All that will get ya is a sky high reapir bill, and exercise for your thumb. Besides, then your buddie will be laughin at ya cause you blew it up. I'd much rather keep mine runnin. easyiest way to get to the bottom bolt on pump. 15mm socket taped on to a universal, taped to a long 3/8 extension. Tape them all together, cause if one piece of it falls off, you'll spend alot of time scratin your head tryin to find it. I found out the hard way. Got lucky with a flexible magnet and found my socket.
