so on my other truck a 92 k2500 6 lug 350 gas burner (ya i definitly like the 6.5 ya better) the 4wheel drive dosent seem to be working. if i put it in 4 and i get under the truck it locks the front drive shaft in so im pretty sure that the T case is workin right. the guy at the parts store told me that he had a problem with the remote 4wheel drive actuator or something like that? any ideas? the other thing that i think it could be is there is a wiring harness on the passanger side of the front diff and the wires are broke from that im in class right now but when i get home i will take a picture casue i dont know what it its hopefully some body has an idea cause it dont make a very good farm truck with on two wheels spinin.

GM makes an electic front axle engagement actuator to replace the sluggish and unreliable freon filled actuator. It is fairly simple to do the job; it requires locating one wire in the t-case harness and 'snap-locking' it. If you use this kit, BE SURE to use the little 'slug' of an extender as directed in the kit for the plunger to reach the full distance and operate properly.

OOPS...forgot to mention that Walt has a neat looking manual actuator kit that will allow you to use Low Range 2WD...a very attractive option. Check that out for sure!

Be careful with low range 2 wheel drive, I don't know with the Chevs , but the Landrovers break axles doing this.

If the wires going to the actuator( on the side of the front differential case ) are broken, I would first check for voltage before repairing them.
1) strip wires and put in 4WD with key on
2) check for voltage on one of the wires from the harness side
3) if you have voltage, splice wires back together and check to see if 4WD works now, if not the actuator is bad (see above )
4) if no voltage, check fuse first and then check switch on top of transfer case that the harness goes to. This activates the actuator when the case is shifted into 4WD. Pull the plug from the switch and check for voltage on either side, if you have voltage on one side, unscrew the switch from the case and plug back to harness and work by hand ( push ball on the end ). Check for voltage on boht side of wires. If none on one wire then the switch is bad. BUY A GM SWITCH. I wasted hours with aftermarket switches that ended up being wrong and in the end the GM switch was cheaper and fixed the problem in 5 minutes.

I got the same problems last year with my 4WD actuator. Crappy thing. Removed and thrown away. Installed the POSI-LOK system and never had problems with again. Even the low 2WD is really great if you had to move a trailer backwards. The only but the importent thing with is to use low 2WD only with idle rpm and you will be satisfied.
Easy to install, absolutly mechanical, works at the time you need it, doen't disengage with ignition shut off.
