I thought i had read somthing on here some where but i cant find it so just thought i would let you guys in on some thing i found out. I met a guy who has a 97 1/2 ton that he did a solid axle swap on he got the kit from off road unlimited http://www.offroadunlimited.com/ProductCart/PC/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=1555 he said it was pretty easy to do you just lose your front tow hooks thats where the front shackle mount bolts to the frame and then the rear shackle mount bolts to the frame also with like 15 bolts if i do it im ganna weld that on and prolly the front one also but hey im goin to school to be a welder. He ended up with about 10in of lift on his truck and it looked really sweet but he said with that much lift he played hell getting driveshafts. he used a dana 44 out of a ford bronco but he said he wants to put a dana 60 in the front and he has a gm 14 bolt that he is going to replace the gm10 bolt in the back with. he told me to gather all the parts i will need and do it all at once and im ganna do it. any one know where i can get a dana 60?

www.ebay.com
www.craigslist.com
also check memphis equipment and boyce equipment

That kit looks pretty sweet. It might actually make me get a chevy when the lease on my Dodge is up. I want to get a Cummins 4 door or a 7.3L Excursion. I want a Solid Front Axle.

A ford High pinion dana 60 will run you about $1000, Find one with the gears you need it in, 4:10's are nice and I would go 4:56 if you want to run 40" tires.

Another good source for a pair of chevy axles would be a military dealer cucv 1-tons had dana 60's and corp 14bolt 10.5's with detroit lockers in them and a pair could be had for around $1250. Usually military rigs have low miles too.

Straight axle swap is the ONLY way to go if you want a good lift and big tires. The IFS just doe'snt cut it off road, no suspensin travel and weak parts.

Shop around at some local bone yards, I got a pair of 60's w/ 4.10 gears and limited slip out of a old Dodge for $300

The Dodge 60 fill fit also on a straight axle conversion for a GM. Peterson's 4wheel mag did one a long time ago, because the Dodge axles can be picked up a lot cheaper than the GM's. Plus The older dodge 250's with the higher GVW came with the 60 front, so they are more abundent than the GM's only offering it in a 1 ton
