I have an annoying humming sound when I am driving down the road. You can let off the throttle while at speed and the engine idles down and the humming goes away. Its not a ticking like an exhaust leak. It was there with the cat and muffler on and after I cut them off it is still there. Its like finger nails on a chalk board! Its driving me crazy! Help!!!

Automatic or manual transmission? Id check the oil in the rearend for sure, and if its a manual transmission id check its oil level too. I dont think an automatic would do that, it would slip and do wierd things if it was low on trans fluid.

Its coming from the engine area. Not in the rearend, Its not a grinding or a gear noise. Thanks for the joke, cant blame ya, I threw that one up and you batted it down LOL!

I had an annoying "chattering" sorta sound on torque converter lockup. If i let off a bit it would go away till next time torque converter was supposed to unlock or lock. That wa the only time i noticed it though. I did have exhaust leaks too, but you could hear rhe difference. Both are fixed now.

Could be the heat shield on the turbo, if it's not tight it'll make some irritating sounds.

Ever since i've had my auto tranny serviced and flushed i've noticed a hum in my truck whenever i'm on light throttle and the pitch increases with speed not rpm, i'm sure it has something to do with that service, i don't notice it as much anymore.

These types of noises are usually caused by some part of the engine, driveline or exhaust system touching up against the chasis or body. Just check for clearance everywhere and if your truck is old the motor mounts could even be suspect.

Yep, I'll bet it's the motor mounts for sure. They collapse when old...REAL old, and allow a metal to metal enging/frame ground path which can make all sorts of obnoxious sounds and vibrations!
