A couple months ago my tranny (94 K2500 auto) was giving me problems where it wouldn't shift out of 1st until you shut the truck off and went again (and it worked fine after that). I changed the fluid and filter and it seemed to work good until it did it again today, although it still is a little slow to shift. It's starting to make a clanking noise when first put in gear, and a light "grindin" sort of noise in park, but only sometimes. Anybody have any ideas on what it could be?

My 97 Burb did the exact same thing. Then after a month, it blew out going down the highway. You will need a new tranny. Find a shop where you live that you can trust & will give you a warranty. GMC dealer will cost about $2300 but give you a 3yr/36000 warranty.

Well I'm heading off to university in the fall so hopefully it'll last me until then when it'll be parked. That'll give me a few years to fix it before its back on the road. Thanks for the advice.

my 95 did the same thing...when i was in school. I was able to find a teacher that had a contact at a dealership and hooked me up with the dealer price on a new 3 yr waranty tranny. Installed it cost me $1700.00

For a quick fix you might try the junk yards. I know in my area I can get trannies for around $500 and if you can do it yourself putting it in you should be good to go. Just make sure the yard you go to has some sort of warranty.
