I just replaced my IP about 2 months ago because after the truck would get hot, it wouldn't start anymore. I first tried replacing the PMD and that did nothing. Then i replaced the injectors, and still nothing, then i replaced the IP and everything seemed to work again... That is until 2 days ago when it left me sit again. It is really weird. I can start it and run it, and it will work great. When i leave the truck sit for about 20 - 25 Min and try to restart, it will start and then die after 1 or 2 seconds of running and will keep doing this until i either let it completely cool down or unplug the CPS (also new) and put it into limp mode. I am really stuck and out of ideas so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Derek

What about your lift pump.could be it is not operating,or not providing enough fuel to the lift pump to keep it running. Also check your filters,
and tank pick up.may be sucking some trash up.Just my ideas on the
concern.

I am dropping the tank today and blowing out the lines. I hope that is all it is.

Thanks!

on the 6.2 in the tank on the pump or pick up there is a sock mine got all gummed up and after running for a while it would suck up and fold over stoping fuel flow shut off the engine and let it sit sock would fall and it would run for a while maybe thats your case aswell????

I know a guy who has the same problem, i think, on his 95 k 2500. He once mentioned something about a fuse or something that he changes when it shuts off and it will fire up and run for a while. I wont see him till a weekend sometime but next time i see him i'll ask exactly what he does. I know this aint much help right now, but maybe it will help you when you try to sell it.

Does it eventually do it again with the CPS still unplugged? If not id say its pretty obvious what the problem is. Just because its new doesnt mean its good ;)

you say your truck is a vegetarian.....i take it your running vegetable oil? maybe this is causing some problems. i don't know anything about this, just an observation. but maybe someone else will know something.

Well, if he's getting it hot enough and clean enough, it should help his Injection pump last ALOT LONGER than with diesel fuel........

I think the same !

Sorry, but if you sell the truck and buy a "Girlie-Man-Dodge" who do you tell, that you got no problems with ? I know, saying is easy, but you can get problems with erevy truck equal which brand, model or engine.

My truck had the same troubles. replaced pmd, batteries, everything short of the IP. Ended up being the starter. Wouldn't turn fast enough when hot, sometimes wouldn't crank at all. Put in new starter and it's like a brand new truck!

Do your glow plugs come on when you go to start it? I have a 93 and replaced the IP and the same thing happend to me. My glow plugs would not come on after 15 to 30 min of sitting. I don't know if the glow plugs are needed on the 95 like they are on the 93 but Walt said even when they are hot they need the glow plugs.

So is mine too. Even in summer, after 10 or 15 min sittung, if i turn the key, th glow plugs light come on. Okay, if i don't wait, till it's gone, and crank, it will start without a problem.

Glowplugs comes on equal which outside temp or engine temp. The only difference the time how long they come on.

All the guys over at SixFiveTurboDiesel.com!!! :D :D

LOL!!!!

No, I really do like Dodges.... I like the 90's chevy's better, but you can't deny the strengths of the Cummins unless your either dumb or biased......

Now Fords on the other hand....................................

Id take the ford over the dodge :D The cummins, IMO of course, is the only good part about the dodges. The rest of the truck falls apart around the engine :D Transmission is fine too if its a NV4500 ;) Tho naturally id take any chevy over any dodge or ford EXCEPT an excursion. Even then I wouldnt trade a chevy for it. :)

Oh, yah, I definitely agree the chevy's a better truck..... But I do like the styling of the dodges.....

Cummins in a 90's chevy truck is my idea of perfect....... With Either a Built 4L80e or Allison 1000 tranny........

Have a look at the pic below !

Nothin' about the engine, but the cumings is a HD engine and the 6.5 is a LD engine. Why say hotrodder put a ford in ford and not the standard 350cui chevy which did the most ? Put a chevy in a chevy ! 6.5 bad ? Go with the duramax and allison. Okay, "a little more expensive" than a cumings, but IMO the better engine, 8 cylinders, not six, quiter and more cool than the cumings.

I don't like the design of the dodge's and the auto tranny is more crap than a bad 6.5. The best auto tranny at the moment seems to be the allison.

Now thats funny i dont care who you are. It's the truth too. If it werent for the cummins under the hood, they'd have gone under years ago.

I totally agree. The only true dodge engine that ive ever liked was the 225 Slant Six. I hated the 318 (still do) but then again i never ever plan in having another small block anything in my life. Im a big block type of guy. But now, im more of a diesel type of guy :D. I agree on the chevy in chevy ford in ford thing (and so on and so on). I was just thinking earlier how much id LOVE to have a duramax in my 96 burb. Youd have a hell of a motor, and a suburban that was diesel. I wish theyd bring the diesel burb back. I love my truck, and 6.5 or not, ill probably drive it until it cant be driven anymore. Honestly tho, i dont dislike the 6.5, either. I wouldnt swap it out for anything else unless it croaked. (but even then since i have no money (lol) it'd have to get a new 6.5 probably). But still the thought of a d-max burb is sweet :D  I saw a new d-max truck today and i swear you almost could not hear that thing. Only when i went by and heard turbo noise could you actually tell it was diesel (i knew it was diesel because of the duramax emblem but it was so quiet i had to really listen for it!) And to top it off, the duramax makes more torque out of the factory than cummins does, atleast for the moment.

My blaser is doing the same thing. It is in the shop now after three staters three lift pumps 2 IPs and three PMDS. The last IP and PMD was put on by the reputed best shop in the area. It was less than two months before it started acting up again. No one seems to really have a clue about how to fix it.
