Crate Engine Age????

I have found out that my 3500HD flatbed with 130K miles has had a GM crate engine dropped into it. There were no service records when I bought it.

Is there a way to track the age by serial number on GM crate engines?? It would be great to get a handle on about how many rounds are on this.

I used to be a line mechanic at the Chevy house. There are some distribution centers though out the US. Most engines and transmissions would come from the plant and there is no way to track them as there isn't a serial number on them unless they are rebuilt, but either way there isn't any tracking. Every once in a blue moon you would find an engine at on of the distribution centers. Your only hope is to go to the Chevy house that did the work and hope they have computer records and look up the truck by the serial number.
