Hi guys.... I've been having trouble with my truck not wanting to start worth a darn lately.. It's been kinda reluctant to start for well over a year or two, but nothing dramatic... Just not like when it was new....... But the last few months it's been really marked.... Even on the block heater it starts hard and smokes bad.... I took a video of it today and it's in the process of uploading to YouTube right now......
I finally put the laptop on it today to pull the codes off.. The last two times I've started it, it's thrown codes at me..... And smoked REALLY bad....
I had the following:
Code 78 (I know when this one happened, on the freeway about 3 weeks ago, I had my Manual wastegate controller set a bit high for freeway travel.....)
Code 36 : Injection Pulse Width Error - Response Long
Code 29 : Glow Plug Relay Circuit Fault
The code 29 sounds like it could be my issue..... I had the dealership check it earlier this summer and they said all the GP's were working and the controller checked out ok..... (Glowplugs are all original as far as I know....) What's odd is I can hear the glowplug relay engage and then disengage when the light goes out......
The code 36 is what bothers me.... That means either a failing PMD or failing IP..... The PMD was new this spring with that mammoth heatsink, so I can't imagine it's failing already..... And the IP was replaced October, 2004 with a new one, new lift pump, new PMD, and new OPS.... And it's been run with either stanadyne additive, Hydrotex Diesel additive, or recently Redline additive......
What could be going on here?
I'll post the link to the video soon.......
