Hi,

I am new to the site and I appreciate all of the info. that you folks have. I have learned alot. I had some problems with my vehicle not starting and stalling. I replaced the lift pump. I have normally 3 psi now. I replaced the pmd but I didn't know the new one didn't have a resistor. The one I replaced had a 6 in it. It would start , but then same problem. Could have it been the resistor not being in?

Anyways, I thought it might be the IP, so I have started with removing that. Do you have to take the timing cover off for that?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Don

Before you take the pump off id get a new PMD and try that for starters
You can take the pump off by removing the oil filler and get at the bolts through there but dont drop them or you will have to take the timing cover off.

Do you think my problems could have been from not having the resistor in? How much difference does that make? Please let me know if you have any more ideas.

Thanks,

Don

By the way, before I started to remove the IP, I pulled a injector line to see if I had fuel and I did when turning the key over. Makes me think it isn't a IP but something else. After running for awhile it wouldn't start. Let it sit for a long time and it would start hard. Try to drive it and it would sputter a stall. Really hard to start if it did, and sometimes it wouldn't start. Any ideas from there?

Thanks,

Don

It should still run fine without a resistor. In fact it wont even notice that there is no resistor until the 50th start (since the last time it looked for one). And when it notices there is no resistor, it will trip a code, and default to i think a #1 resistor setting just to limp by. Its power will be lower but it should run fine. It sounds like a PMD problem but.... i wouldnt think a new pmd would be causing these problems. How new is this new pmd?

I was reading on another thread, could it be damp fuel? One of my problems was erratic idling. 500 to 1200 rpms when it got to where it wanted to stall. If so, what could I put in it to remove the water. I added one thing of 911 power service to it about 200 miles ago.

Thanks,

Don

it is about a year old, but has been in its box the whole time. I did add some more info. Thanks for replying.

Well i dont know if the 9-1-1 power service would remove moisture or not but i would think that it would. Go to the store and look at another bottle of it and see if it says it does. If not, look look at a power service diesel kleen or diesel fuel suppliments (grey, and white bottles). I know one or both of those would remove the moisture if it has any.

Do you think that could cause the erratic idle. When I would turn the ignition on, it would show water in fuel, but as soon as I tried to start it, it would go off.

Thanks,

Don

I use a bardahl additive for diesels, it is really good, have much problem with damp diesel here, really screws up the pump on the 6.2

what are some of your symptoms?

Pretty much all the lights should come on when you turn the key on for a few seconds and then go out. Moisture could be the cause of your irratic idle.

The water light and the throttle light stay on till I start to turn the engine over. Then they go out.

I want to say thankyou for taking your time to help me. It is greatly appreciated and this site is lucky to have all of you as members. Keep up the good work for those of us, who aren't as knowledgeable as some.

Thanks,

I think those lights stay on on mine too until it starts but i cant remember, i never paid that much attention to them. I just know ive seen them on before but never while running. My truck is not here with me right now or i'd go check.
