I have a 1998 K-1500 with the 6.5turbo. I bought it about 3 years ago and have only put about 20k on it since I bought it. It has 129k on it so it is barely broke in bet I have had an issue with it I have replaced the FSD once about a year after I bought the truck (used FSD from EBay and heat sink from ssdiesel) again about 4 months ago (the newest one was a new one from ssdiesel). I have no idea what could be causing this it ran fine for 4 months and after a 6 hour trip I parked it then when I tried to start it would turn over bet not fire. I vented the fuel filter and have pressure bet I have no pressure at the fuel rails. Does anyone have any idea why I would be burning out 1 FSD after another?

A) you put in a used FSD. You have NO IDEA how bacly baked it had been, so you really can't count that one. It may have been on its las legs when you got it.

B) Are you mounting the FSDs onto the Heat-Sync using the proper thermal transfer pad, or suitable thermal transfer compound? If not, this one is doomed, too.

C) Are you mounting the Heat-Sync and FSD under the hood again? If so, this one is doomed, too.

Bet you wish you had a warranty, huh?

Get an extension cable, mount the thing outside of the engine compartment, and you should be OK this time.

I agree, Get that thing out of the engine compartment asap. Even with the fsd heat sync mounted to the upper plenum its still to hot. Touch it one time after the truck is good and warm and you'll agree. There's a reason they don't carry much of a warrenty in that location.

I had the same problem but I discovered my groundwire was messed up. So I lengthened it a little bit and no problems since. Mine is mounted under the hood where SSD says to mount it. I've towed 10000 pounds of hay over the Rocky Mtns on I-70 multiple times and havent had one go out since. However I also stop on top of each pass, open the hood, and let the engine cool back down. Neither my engine nor my clutch can take driving constantly with that much of a load. I'm not saying don't move the FSD, the cooler it is the better, but if you dont want to move it be watch the temps and when the engine is hot, let it cool down. If you don't move it definitely check the ground cable, if its pulled tight then add some more wire to it. Easy fix and it'll save you tons of money.
