fuel filter heater

When does the heating unit in the fuel filter housing come on? Does it cycle on and off to maintain a certain temp, while the engine is running? Or does it come on with the glow plugs or the block heater?

I'm fairly sure, but not one hundred percent sure, that the fuel filter heater cycles with the glow plugs.

I emailed Walt and he said that it comes on below 30 deg F when the ingnition key is on.

fuel heater from dealership, $142.00 and no gasket..........had to order o-ring gasket. geled fuel or pmd, not sure
