When i turned on the heater fan in my burb the other day, it didnt come on. i turned it on and off several times and finally it came on. Now it wont come on at all. If i put my ear down by the blower motor, and turn the switch on, i can hear something click when the switch turns onto the high position. I suspect the blower motor. What do you all think? The fuses and relays are all fine.

I had the same exact problem in my 95 suburban. It drove me nuts for a couple of weeks. Sometimes it would work fine and sometimes nothing. Sometimes I would get all speeds except high. I too checked all the relays and fuses and all was ok. I ran power directly to the blower from an external battery and it did not work at all. So I replaced the blower. All was fine once I changed the blower for a couple of days. Then it quit working on high again.
I then removed the black ground leed to the blower and directly grounded it to the chasis under the dash with a jumper pigtail leed. As soon as I did this the blowere started working again on all speeds. So I drove it this way for a few days and all ok, then it quit completely again. In the end I took it to a local wiring expert and the cause was a bad wire connector in the dash. Apparently this two wire connection is a major and common ground to other circuits which can clearly be seen on the wiring diagram.
I cut out this connector and soldered these directly and heat shrinked both. As of now all is good! I can dig up the wiring diagram and tell you the colors of each wire and where the connector is under the passenger side of the dash.
Cheers!

Same thing happened to me. I discovered that the switch itself had gone south. The thing that led me to the switch in the first place was I could get the fan to work on some speeds or by tweeking it between speeds a little before it went away completly. Replaced the blower switch assembly and all has been fine for the last 3 months.

Backcountry - my heat just stopped working in all positions. It came back on earlier while i was driving. Next time i started it it was fine, got home, turned it on and when i left again it didnt come back on. I banged on the heater box with my fist a little (not too hard) and it came on and has been working ever since. I would say i have a loose connection somewhere or a short. I need to take it apart and look at it.

MarkMC - The switch i believe is fine because i can hear something around the blower motor click when i move the switch to the high position. However, the motor doesnt actually start. Like i said a minute ago tho, it came back on when i banged on the heater box near the blower motor tho.

The local chevy stealership wants $114 for a new acdelco blower motor. Thats unreal! Oreillys only wants $31. OEHQ.com wants $70 for the same ACDELCO blower motor that the stealership has. I have a new acdelco blower switch, but i really dont think its the problem. If it comes down to it i'll test the blower motor, and the ground that backcountry mentioned, and finally the switch.

i just changed the resister in the heater box its located behind the glove box all i was getting was high speed and nothing else. I first tried replacing the switch and still only got high that's how i knew it was the resistor.

The connectors to all of the dash switches are crap, have had problems with my lights, air/heating and gages. Pull them out and sand the connectors, then all work.

Torque-454,
I agree with grancito. All the connections in these trucks are a joke.
They loose connection as they get older and begin to corrode.
Before you go and buy a new blower, disconnect both the positive and negative ground leeds on the blower and power directly to an external 12V source. If the blower runs, you just save some cash!
Once I knew the problem was not my relay, as I too could hear it clicking behind the glovebox up under the dash, I was then guided to the the bad two wire ground and power connector.
I too was able to smack the dash just to the left of my glove box and everything would come back on. I did this for a couple of days until I had the chance to remove the connector and wire directly.
I glad I am not the only one out there with these little gremlins.
I say, kill all the gremlins in these trucks, one by one.

Cheers!

I've got a short to the blower as well, or at least I think I do. Just got my A/C fixed yesterday and when I drove it home all the speeds of the fan worked. Today it got hot here and of course the blower wouldn't come on. Sorry to bitch about it being hot, I know most of y'all on this site are dealing w/ freezing temps. Can someone give me some advice on where to start looking for the short, my blower is not working right now in any position.

had to bang on mine with my hand, not usually the motor, but the heater box beside the blower motor. tap it a few times and it always comes on. Dont know if its a ground or the brushes in the motor, but ive got a new motor to replace it with. Ill let you know if that fixes it or not. Its always such a random problem tho once i get it to come on it usually doesnt act up again for a few days.

It's the crap connectors, had problems with mine. Pull the switch unit out and clean the contacts.
