grand am ???????

the girlfriend has a 97 grand am 3.1 v 6 the gauges quit working and its not a fuse

Have checked the plug on the back of the cluster to see if it worked loose?

ya had the dash right a part checking when the gauges went out they would try to work like the tach would try and work but just stick. The lights on the cluster still work. Also the odometer still works??????????

The back of the cluster should look like a printed circuit board. If one of the circuits shows a small burn like area or a bad connection you may just need to get a different cluster from a salvage yard. I have not seen a 97 Grand Am dash ever but it should be close to any other GM product. Some of the contact points may be accessible so you can use a meter to check the circuit. That would be my best guess based on your description.

the general had problems whith there dashes i have replased quite a few dashes over the years but usualy just one gage stops working or goes eratic it sounds moe lkie the plug at the ecm or the ground to the ecm , was the car in a flood , sounds like a flood car i once worked on it finaly went to the scrap yard where all flood cars belong once they get under water it ruins the wiring harnes buy geting water where it will never come out and the sand rubs through the wires
