Does anyone know if the individually sold muffler on SSDieselSupply is the same one as in the aluminized kit? i took off my CC and Muffler yesterday and it sounds AWESOME!! but...it is so noisy that i cant even hear my radio. Just looking for something to quiet it down just a tad. I orderd the 3" downpipe so im looking for something at least 3" if not bigger that i can adapt to the 3" downpipe.

You are braver than I. Noise laws are a bummer here where I am, not to mention emission laws. Im just gonna fork over the extra dough for a SSD 4 inch kit with the high flow cat kit. I have to have the cat in place for the visual inspection...yes they check. Only 1 emission place for diesels in the southern part of the state so they hammer anyone they can. I made sure to get ahold of the DOT before making the purchase. Good luck with your project. I do believe it is the same muffler...the stainless steel kit has a different look to it....not as straight through. It appears that way.

Why not just go for the 4" kit? My neighbor asked me if I had a Cat motor in my suburban after I installed the 4" system :D

Ive had my truck for going on 4 years and ive never had to smog it or have it inspected. As far as iv ever heard California doesnt require a smog on diesel. I was just kinda concerned about the noise although i love the way it sounds. Maybe ill make up a bypas flap that i can controll from the cab that will allow the exaust to exit before it enters the muffler. I think that would be cool. :) So when i wanted to be real noisy i could!

When I put 4"SSD exaust on my 2000 K3500 It sounded great but it was too loud for a old fart like me. So I added a NAPA universal 4" resonator in front of the muffler. It still sounds great but with less DB's. It doesn't rattle the house and momma's dishes eather. The good thing is, it is where the cat. con.was and a quick look it looks like a cat.

You live in Cali? I dont know if you know but....The terminator...uh I mean the Gov. is trying to cap pollution in your neck of the woods. I thought emissions would be stricter or law...guess not. I would go without the Cat if I could...more power to ya. I personally dont care much for the cat but putting a high flow in its place will be fine for me.

I thought that i was going to have to get the high flow cat when i buy a 4'' system but in ontario it is only a visual emissions test. it can be smoking alot and they will still give it to you.

My 6.5 is a canadian S vin, I suppose that means something to the emission guys, every year when I pull it in the dyno bay they get all weird. The emission place here in Colorado is harsh, they say they only fail 2% of the diesels, and 99% of the time, they are due to running without cats. DAMN YOU STATE LAWS!!!

I put SS Diesel 4" on my 94 - WOW what a great sound - but, I'm an old fart too, I guess. On the 125 mile on way trips I take every weekend in the summer, it started to get to me. I replaced the muffler that came with the kit with a slightly larger one from a company I think was called Second Chance. They told me it would not make a noticable difference in the flow and it didn't. Still sounds great, but not quite as loud in the cab.

ive installed the new 3" downpipe on my truck now and im just running it with that alone, dumping right under the cab. It is really loud and vibrates the cab somethin fierce. Im planning on extending it to the rear tire tomorrow. Hopefully that extension will quiet the cab some.

Has anybody tried the quiet muffler that carried on the SS Diesel Supply? How much louder than stock is it if at all?

im running the 4in. system in my truck with no cc and no muffler. fortunately i live where the noise isnt really a problem but when it comes down to getting checked, i heard to turn the muffler backwards. you cant tell visually its backwards and doesnt muffle anything, serves no purpose. i have a friend who put his muffler backwards on his stroker and it sounds straight piped.

That works if you have a louvered muffler core, turn the core so the louvers open towards the tailpipe - higher flow, less attenuation of noise- comparred to opening towards the engine. Perforated core mufflers - lots of holes punched in the center tube - don't have a loud or quiet direction.

I've got a 3" downpipe on my '93 6.5, going straight pipe then split to duals right before the rear axle. Mine isn't really loud but has a nice tone to it. At the split it goes to 2 1/2" then to 3" tips for the last foot or so. My tips exit right after the rear tires to angled 45 deg toward the sides. It's just a little louder than my other '93 with a cat & 3 chamber flowmaster with single exhaust. Love the way it sounds, i think next i'll remove the intake "tube/silerser" from the fender and see if i can hear more of the turbo spinning up. HEHEHE. Here in GA they don't do emissions on the 1 ton diesels, and my '93 has the mechanical wastegate so I can mess with it some.

if you havent already you should get a new air intake. It really lets the turbo wine. Sounds GREAT!!
