The cord was probably damaged before you installed it or it caught on something while installing it....Garth

starting fluid is a very bad idea with these motors look it up in a previous post no sure what its called but there was a lengthy desicusion about ita while back cant quite tell you why dont remeber but i kno0w others can

Yes starting fluid is real bad as it causes pre-ignition that tries to turn the engine backwards and can blow gaskets or bend rods or cave the piston tops in. However, a friend starts his Fords with quick start every day, but has someone cranking the engine while he sprays a small amount in and has no problems.

not sure where you got your block heater from, but maybe its bad? if its shorteditself out, that would cause a high current draw, and thus burn your wire on the new cord. And now to cause it not to work. just a thought.

That's what i thought also, after a bit thinking about the problem. I won't know any other possibility.

another thought would be the condition of your extension cord. The burning up of your block heater cord i wouldnt think would be caused by a bad extension cord. but the eradic performance of the block heater maybe. Had that problem on a semi this winter. If the female end on the extesion cord doesn't contact the male terminals on the block heater cord tightly enough you will get burned ends and eradict perfomance. It even tripped the fuse in the barn one night. Finally convinced the boss to get a new extesion cord, no problems since. I also in the process cleaned all the male contacts on the heater cord. Proper gauge extension cord is helpfull too. if your extension cord is gettin warm or hot, get a heavier cord.
