I got a 1995 chevy 1500 6.5td, and sometimes when I start it up in the morning it will run for a few minutes and then stall. It always starts back up but sometimes it will be fine other times it will keep on stalling.once its warm it is runs fine, only when cold. I thought maybe it was the lift pump but since I can't hear it over the diesel purr I felt the pump while it was running and could feel it thunking so it must be working. do they have some sort of a warm up soleniod? any help is appreciated.

Did you check codes ? Any ?
There are two water temp senders. One is for the gauge and one for the ecm for checking if the engine is cold or not. Don't remember exactly where this one was, but perhaps another member here coudl recall correctly.
How cold is it in the morning ? Diesel fuel gelling ?

The temperature doesnt really seem to matter whether below freezing or not. The diesel isnt gelling so that cant be it. I did notice the check engine light comes on for maybe 10 seconds and then goes off for a while. Should I hear the lift pump when I turn the key on but engine not running?

On some trucks, you hear the liftpump, on other not. On mine, I hear the pump, if i turn the key, but i know a l lot other trucks, where you can't hear it. If you got an engine light coming on, check the codes. On your 1995 model is OBD-1 which you can read with a paper clip.

Well I pulled the codes and they appear to be 31,32,33, and 36. Except for 36 they are all egr related. I had a terrible smoking problem and unhooked the egr vacuum line and stuffed a bolt in the vacuum line. Is this thing smarter than I thought and somehow knows the egr isnt functioning?

Good thing to do, EGR causes problems and polution.

I just thought about this. After I plugged the EGR valve I never cleared the codes. I'm gonna do that and see what happens.
