Hey guys, been a gasser freak all my life and it looks like i may purchase a 6.5 in a reg cab longbox 1ton. Now i'v done alot of research and I am more then confident i can keep this motor running with the best of em, as most of the problems with these motors are fairly easy to address.

What im looking for is what i can expect for power/torque. I know a real truck isnt gonna post huge dyno numbers and just work in the real world every day, but a dyno can give a pretty good idea of whats happening out on the tarmac. Any dyno sheets of say, a stock 6.5 and one upped with the SSdiesel supply kit (ecm, exhaust, etc). As far as i know a stock 6.5 td is making around 215 horse and 430lbs of torque...is it safe to say that with the SSD kit it will be more around 300 horse and 600lbs of torque? This would be an excellent figure as long as it can run reliably and without having to crack into the motor and upgrade internals. It would be very nice to be close to being competitive with the new diesels with a 10 year old truck that has a "bastard child" of a motor, for less then half the cost. Esepecially if it can all be done with simple tuning and bolton parts as oppossed to cracking the enigne open.

Anyway, just trying to get some ideas here.

All I can tell you is if you install a heat-sync an air induction kit and 4 inch exhaust you will be amazed at the difference not just in power but mileage too.
The next important thing to keep under control is HEAT ..I have a 94 and installed the air induction kit , 4 inch exhaust, and the fan kit and was impressed, and when my water pump started leaking I upgraded to the larger pump. I also installed the 80 HP chip and gauge package.
I tow my 27 foot 5th wheel in western Canada complete with some pretty good hills and I couldnt be more pleased.
I got all my upgrades from Walt at www.ssdieselsupply.com and I wouldnt tell you where I got them unless I was completely happy with the parts and the special service and information from him..Garth J

Well outside of the obvious monitoring of EGT and walts addons, what else has been proven in the 6.5 world? I know a few guys have lowered compression to run higher boost preassures, but other then that Walt's site is really the only source of info outside of the 6.2/6.5 page which im not really a fan of (I am a Gm guy but those dudes are the same as the trolls on ford-truck.com and such, fanboys).

Anyway, these guys are a little bit of a pita to deal with so I may not end up with this truck, however still very interested in the old diesel. If they call this nissan titan im renting a hotrod pickup then i guess ill buy a older diesel for now until my 427 bigblock truck is together. Would i be better off taking a look at an older 6.5 with the mechanical injection pumps? I know these trucks in and out, but the diesels are still very new to me. Just looking for some more ideas guys.

Thanks.

Only go with lower CR pistons if going off road racing. Low CR requires much higher then stock boost. Low compression pistons are made for use with marine engines running superchargers, not turbos. Also, over 20psi boost requires an intercooler. For a daily driver, stick with stock compression. If more power is desired, go with our Power Package 1 or 2 kits will get an extra 100hp with stock pistons and turbo, and not affect the drivability or reliability of the vehicle

That being said, what can i expect from your kit? I figure the PMD w/ heatsink and resistor, the 80hp ecu w/ gauges exhaust and intake, and the marine injectors. Would this 2000$ worth of parts make this engine competitive with the new stockers?

Basically just looking on a general figure. From the 215hp and 430lbs of torque i figure if i can spend the 2 grand on your stuff and see around 300hp and 600lbs of torque i would be very happy. Also, what would you say mileage and longevity of using said parts would be? The truck in question isnt an issue, just wondering about the motor. Say 200k for a baseline provided i dont have too much fun? I tend to see stockers run around 300k just wondering how well the motor holds up with a little extra oomph. What kinda egt's are safe on this motor stock/with your parts? Will it explode quickly or can it take it within reason?

Im sure ill have more questions but thanks so far....any and all info is greatly appreciated I miss my old 97 gasser seriously and i think this diesel critter is looking better by the minute.

This truck has 100k. It seems pretty common that most light diesels need injectors every 100k, so i figure why not upgrade in the process. Figure 100hp with the base ECM kit, and 30 more with the injectors? This is pretty close to stock LBZ trucks if im not mistaken? Is it worth the 500$ for the marine injectors or could i go even further?

Stock hp is 195 @3400rpm and 430 ft/lbs of torque @1800 rpm.
The Power Package kit will yield about 100hp and 30-40hp more for the addition of Marine Injectors. You will be close to an LBZ D'max, they're rated 360hp. You will definitely be competitive with all other diesels on the road. Just think of the pride you have too driving an American diesel. The D'max is made in Japan by Isuzu.

Thanks for the info man. I expect ill probably pick this truck within the next week, if not another 6.5 most likely.

Expect a call from me soon, cant wait to tinker with a 6.5 ;)
