I don't know about 6.5's specifically but most diesels use rotella 15w-40.

I run Rotella 15-40 in my 6.5 also in my semi. A good oil, I have run it in lots of different engines for a lot of miles and have never had a problem. Racechaser8

I have always used Shell Rotella T 15-40 in all my engines, gas or diesel. I am thinking about Amsoil Synthetic though. I put Amsoil Synthetic gearlube in the outdrives on my boat and it stopped them from overheating. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Synth oil has its benefits. Like smoother operation and great viscosity. I used synthetic oil one winter it worked great, but my rig drank it like crazy. Im sure it will help engine temps as the synth has better lubrication which in turn...makes your moving parts work a little less.

for the last 260,000 I have used only Rotella 15W40 - The mileage says it all for me. I change my oil and filter every 5,000 miles, fuel filter every 10,000 and air filter is cleaned with the oil changes. Trans gets fluid and filter change every 30,000. May be overkill on the maintenance but I do have 260,000 miles and counting. Oil is cheap.............

I use amsoil in everything. engine, trans, rear axle, front axle, and transfer case. I picked fuel milage up from doing this. Your trucks oil pressure will drop because its hard for the pump to pick it up. Slippery stuff. Plus your truck might leak oil also this stuff seaks through gaskets. But it is great for your truck. I get 9 thousend before i have to change my oil, but i do change oil fillters every 3 thousend miles. Like TAZZ9963 said its the best.

i use a synthetic Mobil/Delvac 15-40w. i have 300,000 miles on my truck and i still have perfect oil pressure. I've heard poor things about rotella at least for class "A" trucks but it might all be bull

I used Rotella 15W40 in mine from 175K when I bought it to 224K when the heads cracked with an oil and filter change every 3K. After my rebuild, I'm planning to go to Rotella T synthetic 0W40 (you read that right, zeroW it's -5DF as I'm writing this) and installing an FS2500 partial flow filter in parallel with the stock filter. Commercial diesels have been using them for years, they can get 1,000,000 mi. to rebuild. They filter down to >3 micron, and using oil analysis you can easily expect 30,000 mi oil change intervals, if not longer. It pays for itself at the first oil change. Check out their website.:D

That fd2500 partial flow filter sounds interesting...when do you get one and how/where is it installed?

Google it to find their site, or grab a copy of Diesel Power off the newsstand as they run a multi-page ad near the front every month. I'd get you their web address, but I'm over at my girlfriend's place now, and she doesn't have Diesel Power here:D . They're made in Kansas, about 3 hrs from my house. I've been to their site, and have talked to their engineers on the phone. They are the real deal. It is $465 (I think) for the 6.5 kit. That's not bad when you amoritize the cost. If you do changes yourself every 3K at $19 for 2 gals. of Rotella and a filter, and now can extend that to 50K mi before changing oil as indicated by analysis... if you pay for changes $$...well you get my drift, with the miles I was racking up annually it would pay for itself in a year, not to mention how enviro-friendly not having to get rid of the used filters, oil, etc.

Their web site is www.FS2500.com. How obvious!

I got the info pack from fs2500. Where exactly does the filter mount and attach on the 6.5?

It's a remote mount filter, they supply a template to mount it to the frame rail. Anywhere near the engine filter. Diesel Power did an article on the FS2500 last summer. I'll dig out the issue and PM you the details.
