My Cargo Lamp Only comes on when the driver or passenger side door is open. Is this normal?

yeah, only with a door open or if you turn the instrument lightning wheel beside the headlight switch on that the inside cab light is on. In this case the cargo lamps will come on without a door open.

The interior lights are controlled by the ground circuit. The cargo light grounds through the interior light ground circuit, thats why it works only with the interior lights on. If you want it to work without the interior lights, its an easy fix. Pull the light cluster out of the back of the cab, you will see wires going to the brake light and to the cargo light. The white wire on the cargo light is the ground wire. If you cut the wire, tape the piece going to the harness, put the white wire to the lamp to a ground. And you're all set. The dash switch will control the cargo lamp regardless of the interior lights. My company work truck, a 97 K2500 (with one of those inferior gas 350s), I set up emergency lights on the back of it, called a flashback. This alternates stop lights and backup lights. I also made the high center brake light and cargo light flash. To do this I had to modify the ground on the cargo light. Have fun.
