Does any one else with 99 or 00 year truck have to argue with the idiot behind the counter at the part store cause the computer tells them they only list silverado and not k3500? I think im going to say 98 from now on should be the same. auto zone is the worst will never go there unless last resort!

Lots of parts places are not hiring rocket scientists........ Low
pay does not get you a high quality parts man.
Most of them can't get beyond anything the computer display
tells them.
A good parts person is truly a joy!!!

I'll second that. Discount parts hoses are the worst, in my experience. Luckly i know the best NAPA parts guys in the state. And hes only 7 miles away! Of course i also know the best Zone parts guy also. Its great to have friends at these places.
Tractor dealer on the other hand, the close one may as well not exsist. It would save my sanity.

I got into a conversation w/ a little lady at Autozone. I asked for a fuel filter for my truck. She directed me to the back of the store (where all the blister pack filters are for lawnmowers and such). I told her it was for a diesel and it would be in a box behind the counter. Of course I was wrong (according to her). I humored her and let her look for a solid 5 minutes. Finally she flagged down a manager and asked him. The manager looked at me (Yes, I was smirking) smiled and told her all the diesel p/u filters were behind the counter.
She acted like we never had our initial conversation. Completely clueless.
Then of course I have to give her all the info 97, k3500, auto, yes its a 4x4, yes it has A/C, actually its more of a tuquoise than a true blue, blah blah blah.
just to look up a filter that has been used for a decade. I know they can't be intimate with the parts for every vehicle, but c'mon!

Here in the nowhere of Mexico, the parts guy asks to see the old part, doesn't look at the book, I say it is still in the truck, had to use it to get here, he asks where is the truck? "Out in front" so he goes and has a look, and I get the right part, maybe for a tractor but it fits.

I only have that problem with one parts outlet around here, all others ask if its a new or classic and we're off and running :D
I even had great luck as Autozone over the weekend, had everything I asked for in stock :D :D

Imagine, what a problem it could be, if you want to order/fetch parts here in germany.
So, you got some idiots behind the counter ? We would be lucky if we had such guys, cauz we only have this kind of people behind, which would be lucky, if they knew what a Pickup, Tahoe, Suburban, etc. is. They've never seen such a vehicle.
Don't forget, there's always a darker side on the planet !

Around here, we say your not the brightest bulb in the box. Guess on your side of the planet you don't have a light bulb factory?

Sorry C-Power maybe I need to start going to your store at least you would know what I was talking about and the local napa is the worst offender, many people I know wont go there any more cause the guy that runs it is NEVER wrong and he is the most expensive.

I ordered the nylon rocker alignment whatevers from walt and didnt realize I only ordered enough to do one side of the motor.Went to local GM dealer and had to argue with parts man to get them.He has been working there 20 yrs and KNOWS there are no guides in there(all the while refusing to look it up) I am standing there with an old one in my hand.Although I never did, wanted to buy some more from walt and throw them at him.I got mad and came home and ripped and old style set of rockers and shafts out of a 6.2 and installed them.By the way, that is considered an inferior design(6.2 style) but I like them far better than the stamped style

By the way guys, there is something to watch. Those wore out rockers were scrubbing the tops of the valve stems off.I could see the wear patterns on the tip were not flat anymore, and the contact area on the rocker was grooved on sev cyl.The motor is much smoother after that fix.some had about .125 or so wore from the bottom of shaft grrove.multiply that times the rocker ratio and thats a lot of wasted motion.

I directly bash those that i know suck @ss. Gibbs equiptment, bellevue ohio SUCK @ss!!!!! The discount parts houses around here, mainly zone, and a few other off name places suck unless you talk to the 1 guy in the place that has any common sence. If you talk to that 1 guy you will have good luck. Otherwise you might as well talk to a wall. I'd rather them hand me the parts book, or nowadays the computer keyboard and let me do it myself. But on the same hand, why pay the stupid parts guy to just stand there twiddling his thumbs while i do his work? I do enough of my own work, and am tired of doing the parts guys work also. I won't bash you directly cause i dont have any experience with you as a parts guy. All i can say is Good luck. sorry that you happen to fall into a catagory that is filled with morons.
On the flip side Marty at NAPA in attica ohio, Dale at Zone willard ohio, Randy NAPA tiffin, Bob sr Carquest Tiffin, Parts dept Burkhart Farm center Bucyrus ohio. GREAT JOB!!!!! These are the best of the best that i have ever delt with. Wish the rest of you could have the pleasure of dealing with them. Its truely a joy.
I am not perfect and at times I am wrong. as we all are. error is to be human. But to be wrong more than you are right, thats rediculous. That or you are a parts guy at Gibbs.

I took my drums to get them turned yesterday at a higher end parts place. The guy behind the counter grabbed the book and said 13.090" was max, (and it is). Then he measures them and says they are 13.050" and they cannot turn them because they only have .004" to work with. I told him that left .040" and the argument started from there, finally the guy that actually turns the drums came over and straightened him out. Then the guy wanted to charge me more than the standard $10.00 each to turn them (because they are heavy I guess), but again the guy who knows what he is doing shut him down on that also. This was a big deal to me because I do not have the money to replace the drums( 10.5" free floater). At the end of the day all was well. Everyone must learn, but if I was behind the counter and did not know the difference between .004" and .040" I hope I would talk to the guy that does BEFORE I argued with the customer.
