Just wondering on some oil problem, (possible)
I checked my oil a couple months ago & there was no oil
on the dip stick, checked & rechecked - there was no oil.
I havent been driving it since then. & yesturday I changed
the oil & ONLY 2 1/2 QTs. came out.
I don't have any leaks so I was wondering if anybody has any
info.
thanks

You should have kept a check on the oil level so that it didn't get that low. If there are no leaks, it went through the breather into the engine. It has blowby past the piston rings, worn engine. Could be made worse by bad crankcase breather valve, and blocked air filter.

Soooo what should I check/replace

First the air filter, the valve on the passenger side rocker cover could be bad, but mine is full open and does not cause much oil consumption. You may need to rebuild the engine or just keep adding oil. Other posibility is that the turbo bearings are bad and leaking oil into the air intake. Pull the rocker vent tube off at the intake near the air filter and see if there is a massive amount of blue smoke coming out of it. That indicates a worn engine.

Thank you
IF I need to rebuild
do you mean the rings

I used to re ring engines many years ago, but cars were so simple that an engine could be out of vehicle in an hour. A cheap repair that lasted a while. Because of the work involved in pulling your engine, it would be advisable to rebore it.

So how much would that cost me to rebuild the motor?

[QUOTE=scottheimcustoms;14814]So how much would that cost me to rebuild the motor?[/QUOTE
If you do it yourself, expensive, if a shop does it, more than a reman motor. How many miles on the truck?

Have you pulled the tube from the rocker cover to see if it blows enough to move the leaves around the yard?

Not yet
I'm going to do that tomarrow
So If I need to rebuild the motor I should just sell the truck.
right.

It has 147000 miles
So if it doesn't blow blue smoke then it's just that breather.
How long would the motor last if it's worn out & blowing a massive amount of blue smoke & needs rebuilt?
How much would the truck be worth then or now the way it is?

It hasn't done a lot of miles, it shouldn't be worn out. If it doesn't blow a lot of blue smoke from the breather, then that is not where the oil loss is, could be a leak from the turbo shaft. However, if there was no oil added between oil changes,(5,000 miles) I would expect it to be 2 to 3 quarts low without being worn out, but 5 quarts low is a lot. Check also inside the turbo tomorrow, just pull the hose off the front of it.

Thank you very much
there is some oil by the front of the turbo
so when I take off the breather line, the smoke should come out
of there not the exhaust.
what about the turbo shaft, what/how do I fix that
Again thank you very much

Yes it will come from the breather tube, don't be alarmed by more than a gas engine produces, but like I said, if it could blow the leaves away, there's a problem. Also my coments on quarts low at oil change may be misleading, don't let the level get below the add mark on the dip stick, 1 quart. While you have the large tube off the front of the turbo, check the shaft for movement, if it has side play, it needs new bearings, best get a rebuilt turbo unless you want to tackle the job. There will be oil in there from the breather so seeing a leak is difficult. Clean the oil out and run the engine for a while with the hoses off to see if more oil appears.

Ok thank you again
thats ok (about the oil low qts) I own a custom motorcycle shop (american v-twin), so I understand bout oil / qts.
What about the turbo/turbo shaft

thank you
so the bearing/shaft is easy to get to

The turbine is right there in front, grab the nut on the end of the shaft to check it. Don't put your fingers in there with the engine running!!!!

Ya I KNOW NOT TO DO THAT

Ok so I checked the oil blow by tube & just normal amount came out.
there is no slopiness with the turbine.
So I think I just need to change the CDR valve.
anybody know anything I shoud check or look out for.
just put 4" strght exhaust w/ out the cat, & man you can tell a difference
well at first I didn't but tonght I took it out & I could deff tell a diffr

That's good that there are no major problems, I prefer to leave the CDR as it is, open, and not cause oil leeks, just uses a little oil, a quart in 2000 miles.
