does anyone know where i can get a replacement ac service port for the high side connector on the manifold line.A part number would be good too if anyone has it.the local parts departments cannot locate it.

I thought I found it at Napa,it was listed in the tool catalog as an adapter.
But the threads were too small.

...on your 96 if it has the sanden/sankyo style comp. then the hi side is on top of comp., in disc.line . it should be removable and i think you will find that it doe's have smaller threads

Thanks for your reply trukdoc.I already had the valve out and the replacement in hand.the threads on the original were coarser and diameter
was larger.I originally swapped them without looking at them, heard it
leaking under vacuum.that is why I pulled it out and compared. For now
I just epoxied the valve closed and charged it through the low side port.

...the lo side port IS how you charge a/c...sorry couldn't resist..the dealer will deny that replacement valve exists cause they want to sell a new a/c manifold set{hoses} but it's there in their book..I've bought them at local dealer..makem look...

...you hook up and gharge thru hi side with engine running and you won't have a machine...proper use per "robinair" for machine is to charge thru lo side running or not...you say charge hi side w/machine and someone who doesn't know any better will try...they don't call can/hose hookup at parts store "suicide"machine for nothing...

Funny this topic came up. I was at zone gettin new cmax brake pads and rotors for my truck. Ac rack is right by counter. Now has a few signs all over. "it is illegal to sell class 1 and 2 size refrigerent containers to untrained persons" pretty sure it said untrained, but maybe it was unskilled or something. But that was the first time i ever saw it. If i go back i'll reread and post if its different.

now that I have come back and read your post.I use the machine with it
truck off.It is a robinair, the machine can fill the truck through the low side,
high side,or both(at the same time)I am a licensed ac technician,and work
on this stuff every day.If someone was using a $6000 recovery machine,
I would assume they would at least had some training on it.All I was after
was a part number for the fitting so I can Fix my air(when I have time).
They dont use fittings like these on the trucks I work on.

I didn't mean any disrespect to you vmac4. I would have guessed that you have quite a bit of ac experience buy the fact that you asked for a part number, and not generaly question about ac. I have some ac experience too, but only used a fancy recyling machine and such once. Usually just gauges and small can from a partsplace.
I simply stated about the sign i read at autozone because it seems silly to put a sign on a product and try to regulate who you sell it too when you have no good way to tell if the buyer is trained or not. If 4 guys walked into a store, and stopped at the ac rack, you wouldnt be able to tell who was trained and who wasn't. Let alone try to do it if it was just 1 person.
It was more a reply to the "suicide machine" post from trukdoc. Sorry bout the confusion.

...no disrespect intended to you...when I had to train a "newbie" at the trkline...it was just easier{less confusing} to em...cause they allways new just enough to be dangerous about a/c...goin from cars to class 8 stuff messed em up enough..copy on the 6k$ machine...simple instruction...chg thru lo side...cause I couldn't watch em all...

no hard feelings, worn out when I read it.I hear you about the newbies, but
don't knock them for working on cars to bad.I worked on the cars too,but
found truck repair a more stable income. My version of newbies are the
trade school grads who walk in expecting top dollar, then asking how to fix
it without putting any effort in it.But that can be a whole other thread.
