trust me if the duramax lb7 cost the same amount as the 6.5L and was a direct replacement alot of people would have changed over a long time ago. Who would not like to have the LB7 backed by the allison. Im not saying that the 6.5L is terrible because i own a c1500 6.5l myself and love it. You have to be a fan of the 6.5L to understand and love the motor. When i first recieved my 6.5L truck I hated it because it kept giving me problems and there was very little I could do for performance until i stumbled on to ssdieselsupply and found out about all the flaws that were associated with the 6.5L and how I could fix it. And still that 6.6L k1500 is still cool.

Well for me the LB7 isnt complicated at all (its not like i'm talking about the new LMM with all the super extra emmisions equipment) The only reason I posted that truck is because I like the LB7. That duramax LB7 was supposed to be fitted in the 1998 c/k pickups before then being used in the new body style 1999 models. It even had the infamous crushed manifold on the passenger side of the motor so it could fit in the c/k pickups engine bay similar to the crushed down pipe on the 6.5LTD. Not saying that the crushed pipe on a 6.5L was due to fitmant issues(which walt and many other aftermarket companies helped us realized. Thank you 3in down pipe whew). That 502 you where talking about sounds very impressive. I would love to drive that. And your right a 502 is less complicated than a 6.6L but if I had to choose gas verses diesel, diesel will when pretty much every time no matter the complication.

Id drop a lb7 in an older chevy if i could afford it. But since i can't i'll stick with my great running 6.5. Besides, its easyier for me to work on my mechanicaly injected 6.5 then an electric d max anyway.

Thats the key word here money. If the lb7 was as affordable as the 6.5L people would do it.

When a new engine is created of course its going to be complicated if its new. Once you learn about the 6.6L you wont have a problem. My 6.5L had way more issues than my friends 6.6L until I learned about the 6.5L and changed certain things that the factory neglected. if you took a factory 6.5L and 6.6L and used them without upgrading anything example pmd relocator the 6.6L would out last it because the 6.5L would fry its own pmd and be sidelined.

First off this post isnt about forcing the issue that the dmax is better than the 6.5L. The 6.5L in a 3500 is still considered medium-duty. It was about the 89 6.6L. If chevy still offered a 6.5L to this day they would get ran over by ford and dodge becuase it cant handle the payload that the powerstroke and cummins can. Chevy would not even be in the running with those to companies to this day. What could possibly be chevys advertisement for the 6.5L in the new 3500-2500s. Not as strong as the others but fuel efficien and simple. Think about diesel trucks these days are used for racing, towing, and recreational use. The only thing that the 6.5L can do with the newer models is be used for recreational use. when it comes to towing and racing it is left behind. The 6.5L wasnt built to be nothing more than a fuel efficient motor with the torque for medium duty use.

I like the simplicity of the old 6.5. 21 mpg loaded, less $ to buy it than 2 yrs insurance on a new truck.Runs very responsive and parts are cheap.Lets face it,400 ft lbs of tq ain too shabby(run the guts out of a gasser to get that) and you gotta love the rattle of a diesel. But granted, after seeing my folks 24 valve pull 21 K(6x6 with a huge tri axle gooseneck) thru the mountains no problem,it makes me want a modern 1.BUT,for the 35k price diff,I will stick with old trusty.Plus,I have a hungry fleet to feed.Inventory reduction sale soon(again) the Duster is being previewed tomm, and may trade the 1 ton for a wrecked 94 6bt Dodge 4x4

...know what yer babblin about..payload?...my svc trk is 155k gvw...weighs 11150lbs allatime..have pulled loaded 10yard mixer to shop no problem...pulled buddys' 12valve w/gooseneck w/backhoe on it..dodge gave it up...drive what you like I'll keep my beast...

I really want the gassers off the property.I ran gas for yrs,and after owning diesel, will never go back.A 454 gas truck isnt worth much right now,so I thought it might be a fair trade.I either find something to re power or I keep em for tradin stock.I have had a couple 1st gen 6bts and they are ok.But the old 6.5 is much nicer for daily driving. But the 05 of the parents did a really good job.Ive been around a lot of trucks, and that is a lot of weight for a 1 ton series truck to be able to tow like that and good brakes ect.I would still be on the road if we towed with the 6.5 thru the mountains with that load.

Thanks for setting this straight murd450. I understand that this is a 6.5L forom ; but I love gm period. And as long as gm can stay on top of ford and dodge i.m happy wheather its a 6.5L or duramax. I love all gm diesels. I just wish they could have created the 6.2L and 6.5L better so I could race and drive my c1500 instead of upgrading 6.6L and newer style truck to race. that way i won.t have to have two diffrent trucks in my driveway.
