I have a 98 and the lift pump will not shut off. I had to unplug the pump it was draining the battery. Any one know what would would cause it to keep running?

The first thing I would check is the fuel pump relay. It is in the electrical box on the left inner fender near the master cyl. There is a legand of whats what under the cover. Pull it out the pump should stop. You can plug one of the other relays next to it to check if work the way it should. Some times the relay contacts will weld them self together. Good luck!

Could be the oil pressure sender also.

I will check the relay. I never even thought about that and I should have (I just had to replace 2 of them on another truck). Also just replaced the oil sending unit because the gauge was going crazy so I doubt it is that, but I do have another one I can try.

ran about fifteen minutes, still stalling, I'm going to replace the lift pump, and the oil pres sending unit,............where is the oil pres sending unit on the 6.5, is it under the fuel filter? unless i'm blind, i cant seem to locate sending unit.

The OPS controls the lift pump & is under the FUEL filter on top & screwed into the drivers side on an angle. The other sending unit you refer to is for the oil pressure gauge. Just remove the fuel filter mounting bracket bolts and leaving the rest of it attached, just move the whole mess out of the way. My deep sockets were not deep enough to remove the OPS so I made one out of 2. If you have the right socket, it's a fairly easy job. Good Luck.

Lisle Tools makes a socket part # 13250 that should do the job. Any good auto parts store should be able to get it.

I'm sorry, I didn't see your post until tonight. I think it was a 27mm from memory, but anyway, my problem was that a standard deepwell wasn't near deep enough, I cut it in half in the middle and welded a 2" long piece of 1" pipe in the middle making to whole thing about 5" long. I hope i never use it again, but it makes the change about a 5 minute job.
