I haven't had my '98 Suburban long so I don't know for sure if this is cold weather related, but lately it's been zero degrees and below and a couple times when starting the truck and it's idling in park the speedometer needle jumps around. Any idea why this would be? Maybe a defective sending unit?

Thanks!

Ive had the same thing happen to me when it gets cold, a mere surge in the fuel is what I believe it is associated with. Nothing major, unless your needle is bouncing around unusually your speedo should be fine.

I just find it very strange that it happens while the gear selector is in park. Weird.

sometimes it can be due to speedometer sensor, thats what mine was

It still may very well be your sensor, but I personally would only worry if its going crazy while in drive. I put a remote start in last week so I havent actually sat in my rig and stared at it recently. New remote start on the market is pretty sweet, it starts the days I program it to at the time I tell it to start. 15 second delay for the plugs too. Check it out.

I went through a lot of problems with this issue on my 94 chev 6.5 td. My speedometer was bouncing around while driving. It was happening so bad that my cruise control would jump and even shut off at times. I even tried replacing the instrument cluster at the tune of about $300 per the advice of the dealer service tech(did not help). After all that it ended up being the speed sensor located on the transmisson housing. Easy fix(10min) and about $50.00.
