i saw this show on discovery channel a week ago about future cars. They had a biodiesel powered formula one car that got something like 230 miles to the gallon while going 200+ miles per hour. I wish i could get that kinda milage :) but then again, im glad i have a truck.!!

Thats The Veyron 16/4, Wow- Only 1.6 Million Dollars And I Can Have One? Why Didn't Anyone Tell Me This Sooner. Oh Sure, You Can Reach Speeds Of 252 Mph, But Can It Tow A House Like A 6.5?? Ha-ha. They Say You Have To Give Them A 125,000 Dollar Deposit Just To Reserve One Of Those Bad Boys.

Yeah, have you been following what the Audi R10 (10 cyl TD) has been doing in LeMans type car racing? It won Lemans 24 hr. It won Daytona. The team is consistantly finishing 1-2-3. They are kicking the s--t out of Porsche, Ferrari, Alfa, Lotus, et al. The teams are pissed that their V-12 gassers are being beaten by the smaller displacement turbo diesel, and are now crying foul that it is unfair, and are trying to get the regs for next year changed against the diesel so they can be competitive with them!!

sorry i have to call BS on this one. the most MPG ever achieved was 160MPG and that was drafting behind a specially made draft car, with full wind fairings.
give me a link and i will believe

i think reasonably at those speeds were either talking (23)0 or 2(30) MPG, 30 seems like it could be done and is a possible typo hitting the two and the three key at the same time and then the zero when trying to type 30. I don't even think its possible to get 230mpg in a single cylinder turbo diesel scooter going 30mph.

Diesel Power magazine a few issues back in their tech section talked about a team from I believe SDSU who, in a three year design and build contest to produce a usable, production high mpg commuter car, have built a working diesel-electric hybrid. Now I'm prone to over 40 moments (sometimes more frequently than I like to admit) but these are the things that I seem to specifically remember from that paragraph. It is three-wheeled, composite body, seats two, weighs about 800lb empty, really slippery shape, used I believe a Yanmar 3 cyl. diesel, and was getting 180 mpg in real-world testing.
Now, I'm not a purveyor of rumor, half truths, and mis-information. So as soon as I get home, it's hit the back-issues til I find the article, and I will post the specifics as soon as I can get back on-line, if some body else doesn't look it up first and beats me to it. If I'm majorly off-whack, I'll gladly eat crow. Oh, if I remember right, also, they're using bio-diesel.
