A tad off subject. What would cause an intercooler to frost up?I have a c70 coupe that I dont drive often.I took it out yesterday afternoon, and the kid at gas station wanted to see the turbo/innercooler setup. When I popped the hood,I noticed frost on the cooler near the bottom. It has the off road flash in the ECM to give it 11-13 lbs boost instead of 6-9,but was not driving it to where it was producing any before noticing frost.

Let me see if I can explain this.In a nut shell your cac was operating like your
air conditioner, only backwards.the air outside your cac was moist and warmer air, than what was inside your cac.this transfer of heat from the outside air
to your cac intake air caused frost to build up on your cac.once the boost level comes up,this conversion would reverse and instead it will cool your
intake charge instead of heating it up.The process I'm referring to is laten
heat evaporation.

yep, thats how Volvos website explained it.Thank you.I didnt realize that much pressure drop was involved, and been raining non stop here.I dont suppose that could cause cracking of the i/c?It was a pretty solid piece of ice in the middle of the frozen spot(which corresponds to what you said, bout 6 in from inlet tube).I have an old choke cooler for carbs that plugged into an air hose(thank goodness for fuel inj) that worked on that principle.I was writing GM warranty and service in those days,I had mechanics take early retirement when F/I came out.

Hate to brag up an import, but wow, what a car. After driving 6x6s,230K old chevy truck and all my junk, that thing feels like your driving a vault down the road.A straight 5 cyl, simple turbo setup,UNDERdriven instead of overdriven(5th is less than 1:1in lockup) an awesome fast baud rate on the computer.Built in Udevella Switzerland with mostly USA componets.World Ind. cast the block,Manley built rotating assembly.Lighting by Hella including body harness with a Motori fuel inj system(French i believe) Handbuilt by Tom Walkenshaw racing for Volvo right beside the Holden GTOs.It even has chromoly roll cage factory installed......in a Volvo?

Yeah them volvos are rated for Moose crash protection.I haven't worked on the cars much, but work on the trucks every day.The wiring on the trucks can
be a nightmare(up to 19 computers).

Some of the newer Beemers and Benzes have over 50.

Im not the import type.Detroit has made their fair share off me for sure. But when the diesel bug bit,I learned that turbo is the only way to go.I went from an 82 Burb with a 6.2 n/a,to a 97 1 ton GM 6.5 turbo(3 months only,GM mechanic friend said sell it ASAP) I could not believe the diff in perf with the turbo.I figured the daily driver needed one also.....but US doesnt seem to build many...ended up with a Volvo?? I dont play golf, wear plaid pants ect....this thing even has rollbars that pop up out of the seat backs to hold the roof up in case of a crash..on top of the roll cage..in a #%&*** Volvo??

not exactly the boxy Volvo....but feels right at home @135 mph...while still getting 14mpg at that speed.Must not have a speed limiter as most US cars.It was still pulling hard when I ran out of interstate(bridge between Ohio and W.Va on I 77,kinda in no cop land between 2 states) It shuts off pwr steering above 100 mph,and feels very stable...but no hubs, transfer case lever or extra axles pulling..I like trucks better. How they do it with a 2.3 litre motor is beyond me.Babyfootin I can get 32-3 mpg on flat road. Also picked up mpg with the reflashed puter. If you work on big trucks, you get those cool circuit breakers that plug in where the flat blade fuses go.I went to a truck wrecking yard and bought a fistfull for $20.My 6.5 truck now has breakers instead of fuses

Those circuit breakers also come in two different types(not size).one requires
removal from power to reset, the other(used in headlamp circuit)resets on
it's own.gold cover,resets itself,silver or fuse colored,remove from power reset.

Yeah I have heard for a long time they could get better MPG in cars with diesels than with Gas. I wonder why there is not more of them. I know the cost. Maybe people just dont want the sound and the smoke but i believe they have come along way with diesels.

The biggest problem with getting them is the EPA.Many US manufacturers make diesel powered cars that are not avail in USA.European spec Buick Lucerenes get the diesel,we get whacko Nancy Pelosi from Cali, who doesnt want YOU to pollute, but flys all over the world at taxpayer expense in her GOV paid for jet(quite possibly 1 of the most dagerous women in the world, really) I think her makeup might have a fault line running thru it.
