I have an 97 k2500 6.5l f vin. Started a few weeks ago with a bucking or surge changed the fuel filter went away. Last week tues just quit, restarted a few times then crank no start. Changed pmd and added a FSD heat sync, I had one just waiting for the pmd to die first, still no start. Changed the fuel shutoff sol., had one also, ran for a few mins. then stalled no restart. No troble codes no engine light when it did run, any ideas? thanks Adam

see if you are getting fuel to the IP, if not it could be the pickup in the tank is clogged.

There could be some reasons.

I dont know how cold it is at your location, but diesel could clogg much things if the temperature outside is below about 25° celsius.

defect lift pump :
turn the ignition key in running position and open the bleed valve on top of the fuel filter as long as no more air comes out.

clogged fuel filter again : loosen the fuel line at the ip coming from the fuel filter while cranking.

No fuel at the injectors :
loosen the fuel line at one injector while cranking.

clogged ventilation of the tank :
remove the fuel cap

clogged fuel pickup inside the tank :
remove the tank and remove the sending unit/pickup from the inside.

I read somthing about a defective Crankshaft Position Sensor here a few weeks ago. There was a cable broken and if there's no signal from the IP would give no fuel to the injectors !

Fuel into the IP no fuel at the injectors, well at least #1 thats the one I checked. What do you think IP or bad pmd? Adam

Read this thread , especially the posts from "John R" about the CPS !

I never thought about that I do have another one, a whole parts truck, I might just try it wouldn't that give me a SES light? and why would it run after I changed the fuel sol. and then quit? Adam

Perhaps not the sensor itself is defect. It could be the wire which is broken and every time you move it, it gets power, the engine starts an with the vibration of the engine the cut/short/broke move outwards and the engines stalls. The injection pump only gives fuel to theinjectors if the CPS tells her the time to. If the IP gets no impulse from the CPS there will be no fuel at the injectors and the engine won't start or stalls if it runs at the moment.

CPS should be a Code 19.
