Do you just plug it in and it works or is there something else Im suppose to be doing?

When you use the block heater, does it warm up your coolant so that there is hot air as soon as you crank the truck?

As Garth said, it warms the coolant and yes, just plug it in.If it is plug long enough the air is warm (wouldn't say hot) as soon as you crank it.

I leave mine on a timer 6 hrs., 6 hrs off but when extremely cold plug it straight into the wall. I had a friend run a OTC Genesis 3000 code scanner on it parked and he asked if I had just finished driving and I said no, why? He said the water temperature was around 108 degrees and it was 10 degrees outside that day. I was surprised that it would heat the engine that hot.

I run a block heater on each side. Both are on a timer
and 2 hours will fire it up every time. 1 hour when it's
above zero.
