View Full Version : Battery Cable Lengths

My '95 PU has all "add on" battery side ends. You know,
the ones that clamp down on the wire. They suck.....

I am going to replace all the cables and I did a forum
search with no luck. Is there any reference on what
lengths and gauges I will be needing? I'm a long way
from town and I'd rather not pull all the cables and
do match if possible,

Measure them with a tape measure for length and make sure you get the right DIAMETER or GAUGE cable as that is also very important to your starting and charging system. Hope this helps, Keith

Get the finest strand conductor as possible.Kinda like welding lead.

Yep..... Fine strands and LOTS of them... That's the key to optimum power transfer....

Lengths???? It's hard to believe there isn't a resource that
would tell you exactly what length, and how many, cables
you would need..........

Bummer to have the truck down that long while all cables are
stripped, run to town (hoping they have them) and back again.
Can't afford to have my work truck down too long.

Four cables, two for negative and two for positive if using two batteries! Use a tape measure for length.
