I have maybe defective PMD (Code 35) on my 94 6.5 turbo. I have borrowed a NEW one for test.... (Don't want to buy one 'til I know for sure that is the problem...) Does the TEST PMD need to be bolted on? (Grounded) Or can it be used for test by simply switching pigtail from the suspected defect... without bolting down?

yes, you need to ground it. Aligator clipping it will be fine, you don't have to bolt it down. DON'T run it very long, without heat sinking you could wind up with two bad PMD's! Getting the lead off can be tricky, a pair of bent nose needle nose pliers helps.

If you have a no start problem just plug it in. If the engine starts let it run for about 30 seconds then stut it off and mount it.You don't want to run it more than that ,you don't want to over heat the new PMD. If it is a drivabilty problem you must mount it it road test it you don't want to cook it. It will run hanging on the harness. It gets its ground through the harness providing the short wire (about 4" or 5" long ) with the ring terminal is grounded. If you have the SSD Heat-Sync this ground wire mounts to the Heat-Sync. Make shure the Heat -Sync has a good ground to the intake manifold. Ihad one loosen up it would lose ground and cause stalling and stumbling, Gool Luck!

new fuel lines, tank, lift pump, this past summer, in the last three days two bottles of 911, eight gallons of kerosine. big storm this last wednesday, 2 1/2' of snow, just when i need my truck the most, it freezes up. pulled down to my barn, two hours later with salimander, and its running again. ran for two days and then started stalling, i mean the motor just quits with no warning. back in 05, bought an aftermarket pmd company called Remarq from canada.
$500.00 bucks and a five year warrantee, hehe. this was my third pmd, two from gmc and this one, now its stalling again, three times yesterday, trying to get back from greenwich.........the pmds from ssdieselsupply, does anybody know how long they last.
ps. i have 187000 miles on this 3500K reg cab 4X4, i'm really stumped with this...........greg

Bad PMD will not throw a code. With a code 35, I would look more at fuel supply problems. Could be the optical sensor is sensing bubbles in the fuel, or cloudy fuel. Make sure lift pump is working good, and check fuel flow and quality from the bleed valve that is mounted on the thermostat housing. New fuel filter might help too. Could also be the zero temps gelling the fuel, lotta that going around lately.

SSDS' is the latest version genuine Stanadyne PMD. Sounds like your Remarq unit is not able to disipate the heat from the PMD. Nothing lasts forever, but a PMDwith a well-engineered heat sink like Walt's should last a good long time. Some of the PMD's on E-bay that are really low priced are either older models, or have been "rebuilt" by putting new transistors on the back. I ran across some of the "rebuilts" 3 years ago on E-bay when my PMD went out. Glad I didn't bite on cheap, I got my PMD from the dealer, and am going to cooler mount it during my rebuild this spring.

No problem. It was my pleasure. Got to watch for those 'bay scamsters. If it sounds too good to be true without outside verification, it probably is! I've been really lucky not to have this one fail prior to my engine toasting, this happened just before Walt came on-line with SSDS. I almost bit on one of those big pieces of tin with a PMD monted to it, but couldn't afford $450 at the time so I just got the PMD from the local dealer.

changed out the heater in the fuel filter also, noticed though, that when I turn the ignition key slowly to on and then start, the lift pump doesnt run, only after the motor turns over, then the lift pump runs. isnt that a sign of the oil sending unit going bad, to the right of the fuel filter. seems like in the past time or months, that it ran, (lift pump) with the key turned to run position. this could to adding to my problem of stalling..
