I've had the usual problems with the stock PMD failure. Replaced with the SS Diesel PMD and heatsink mounted on the intake, in March 09. Headed to New Mexico with friends and 150 miles later broke down (PMD) on the interstate. Spent a fortune having the Suburb hauled to the closest airport and parked it in the long term parking. Ordered a new PMD and installed it on the way home. Truck cranked up first try. Walt @ SS Diesel advises that relocating the PMD w/heatsink is not recommended, but I have read and talked to people who mount the PMD and heatsink behind the bumper, and have not had any trouble.
I understand that a six ft. wiring harness is used, but Walt advises that will cause PMD failure. I'm still going to try it. What brand PMD works the best using the harness extension to the front bumper?? Does the new ground attach to the heat sink when the PMD is relocated behind the bumper?? The other end of the ground is best attached where? Many thanks for any advise.

Guess I'm not allowed to to criticize ssdiesel's PMD relocation site, but some of us have put the PMD in the bumper using home made extensions and after market ones and have no problems. You should leave the ground on the IP and run another ground from the heat sink back to it, however I ran it to the heat sink without a problem but will change it.

So if I understand, attach the IP ground back on the IP, it's original position instead of the heat sink on the manifold, then when the PMD and heat sink are relocated behind the front bumper, run a ground from the heat sink back to where? Thanks

..any good engine ground should do...I think grant means to run ground to original spot with ip ground...others on here claim to run grounds to batt...have my ss/heatsink in spot recommended by walt and have had no problems...yet.....

It should really be grounded back to the IP, then there is less chance of a bad connection.

There is plenty of room behind the front bumper for the PMD relocation mounted on the heat sink, but what brand PMD will work the best, Standadyne or Flight?
