HI!
has anyone put a 3" body lift kit on their truck themselves?
and if they have do you have any photos and any reccomendations on a good kit with everything you need? I have the space and money to do it, i just need to find a good kit with all the parts an accesories needed to do the job start to finish.
PS. if anyone has any pictures of their truck body-lifted, would you be so kind as to show them? :P thanks

I'll let you know how mine goes, but it might be a few weeks before I get it on. It looks like the hose from the surge tank to the lower rad hose will have to be lengthened(94up trucks) to get it away from the turbo and some tweeking to the aircleaner assembly and I dont know how much it will affect cooling, if you tow alot I prolly wouldn't do it as the fan shroud wont be as effective.

A person on the this website once told me it wouldnt work well... Because of where the turbo is mounted so you would get water and dirt and all that hitting the hott turbo? Im not sure if you could make a guard plate to protect it?

Yes, that was me. Check the online shops from the manufactors of body lifts for our model. In every case you willread that a body lift doesn't fit a 6.5TD truck, because of the SIDEMOUNT turbo. If you lift the cab on the frame the turbo will hit the inner fender on the passenger side. In my opinion bodylifts are cheap but they are waste the money. Spent a little more and buy a suspension lift like this one : Rancho 3" lift (http://my4by.com/suspension-lift-198898-k1500-p-198.html)
I got this on my truck with additional 1,5" rear blocks and Rancho 5000 shocks. I'm satisfied with the lift kit.

I'm raising the cab on mine because I dont want to raise the whole truck, raising its center of gravity anymore than I have too, it already has a flatbed carrying 3,000lbs a hundred or so miles everyday.
If its only the fender well, that can easily be tweeked by anyone who is capable of installing a lift, body or suspension.

i dont think that would be too much of a problem... just hack it up with some "sawzall sculpting"... i mean cmon what redneck isnt an artist with one of those bad boys... i bet if i wanted to i could... but i dunno haha.
so that is gonna create a problem...
Whats the cheapest liftkit i can buy so i can run 37" BFG all-terrain T/A's... i got a set for free, i wanna use em lol.

Not only is there the issue of turbo clearance to the inner fender well, but if you have a stock air box you will have to modify it (or put on Walt's intake), extend battery cables and a few wiring harnesses. It could be done, but you definately want to make sure that you have something solid to protect the turbo from splash, cold water/snow/mud and 800* turbo don't mix (cracked exhaust housing). Also you will have to make sure that the inner fender well mod clears the tire throughout its travel.

Another thing with a body lift what about the cooling fan?? I have seen the bottom cut out of the shroud and the fan hanging below the radiator and people wonder why they now have a cooling problem. So plan on putting on electric fans or do some real fancy shroud work!!

Oh,yeah, I also forgot to include in my last post that you would also have to replace/extend the heater hoses, coolant tank to lower rad. hose, upper and lower rad hose, A/C lines, steering column, clutch/shifter linkage (even auto trans), brake lines from master cyl/ABS to frame, and anything else that interfaces with the motor/chassis and the body has to be taken into consideration. Is there anything else that's been missed in doing a bodylift that somebody knows about? If so, post. Suspension lifts are Sooo much easier.
Hope this helps.

i looked at my truck, and from the looks, you dont have to extend any hoses, unless theyre getting close to the turbo. and for the rad/shroud, you can get/make 3" extensions, so the radiator/shroud goes down with the motor, solving your cooling issue. if your handy with tools, i think this feat shouldnt be hard. despite what people say, im going to attempt this in the near future. i will post pics when i am completed it.
PS. i am running the body lift with a 6" susp. lift, so im not worried about my tires hitting the fabbed turbo guard plate. i dont think 38.5" tires will fit in my wheel wells.
