Has anyone ever done this? and is there any advantages of 5" over 4"? i presume itll be louder...

A 4" system is almost a over kill for a 6.5 . Unless you build the engine to the max and them some it will do every thing you want with room to spare!!

You're absolutely right, sixnickel. At about 350 hp max, a 4" exhaust with a 5" tip is plenty. First, you're still limited by your smallest diameter, the 3" down pipe. Second, there isn't room under there to run a 5" system. Third, I could possibly see it if 6.5's were capable of being 650+ hp, 1300+ lb/ft sled pullers and draggers like the Max's, 'Jokes, and Goin's, but they aren't. See #1 and #2 again.

Hope you don't think I'm dissin' you, 6.5SmokeStack. What the point that sixnickel and I are making is that after 4" in diameter you aren't going to see any increase in performance from increased exhaust flow simply because you can't cram any more air or fuel into the engine to exhaust. Also, there isn't enough room to stock route a 5" system. That being said, I have always thought stacks on a pickup was cool since I saw my first "'Lil Red Express" in High School. I thought a pair of 4 or 5 stacks on my rig would look really great running up the front of my utility box on either side of my cab since I got my truck 3 years ago, but... I don't think my customers would have appreciated my exhaust belching on their new windows and doors, plus the clearance problems with my siding brake and ladders.

I know what you guys mean by not having room for a 5 inch system, my 4 inch exhaust barely clears several areas of the under carriage, the spare, the wheel well, etc.

If your exhaust system is too big, the exhaust velocity will drop to almost nothing at the end of the downpipe. Then your engine will have to push the exhaust past this "pool" of colder heavier gases and actually increase the backpressure robbing you of power.

Yah, like, really, the smoke itself is so heavy that gravity will at least scavenge it out of the pipe! :D
Back pressure is really only necessary for NA engines, once you have a turbo, you want as absolutely little backpressure after the turbine as possible..... In fact, letting the exhaust blow against the firewall would be best as far as performance is concerned, though it has other problems! :D

It's the pipe that leads from the turbo "down" underneath the truck where the rest of the exhaust system is located....
