Hey guys,
I think I finally solved this problem. The rig broke down today very
close from home. The motor cut out like it was not getting any fuel. After
bleeding the filter several times I made it home and put my fuel pressure gauge and was reading vacum. I pulled the feed line and place it into a 5 gallon can of fuel and fuel pressure shot up to normal. I dropped the tank,
pulled the sending unit and and removed the strainer. the strainer had some
material around it but I was able to suck air from it. Now I replaced the sending unit in december with an aftermarket unit. I picked up a new gm strainer today and I compared it with the one I pulled from the tank. The strainer that came with the sending unit is kind of flat with no round metal tube to keep it from flatting out. What I think was happenig was on high demand for fuel the strainer was collapsing and preventing fuel from being pulled to the filter. I installed the gm strainer and the truck has great fuel pressure. I think the after market sending units are ok but if the strainer
is not like the one you pulled out get an original from the dealer or parts store. Thanks for all the help guys!!!
