Installing a new IP on my 6.5. Is there a certain position the drive gear for the IP should be in relation to the TDC index on the engine or does it not matter because it is controlled electronically? Any input is welcome. Thanks

I know the IP has an index pin for the drive gear but does the drive gear have any reference marks related to the cam drive gear?

The camshaft gear has a mark that needs to be lined up with the gear that drives the IP. On mine, it is a small dimple. Good Luck!

The way people talk about timing marks on pump changes it sound like they pull the front cover of to unbolt the gear. You don't need to pull the cover. You pull the oil fill tube off and go in though that hole to get to the 3 bolts that hold the gear to the pump. You do have to bar the engine over with a socket on the damper bolt to get to all 3 bolts. The pump has a line up dowel on it so it goes on the gear one way. The 3 nuts that hold the pump in, the bottom ones can be fun. I bought some cheap 15mm wrenches put the torch to them bent them to reach around the nuts, makes it easier to get to them. I pull the pump and lines off as one unit (it looks like a big spider) it's a lot easier to undo the lines and put them back on and tighten them on the bench than at the pump in the engine valley. Just mark them and put them back the same way. After it's all back together and running you have to get someone with a Tech II scanner to set timing offset to get it to run right!!! Your Chevy or GMC dealer can do this. Good luck and have fun!!!!
