I had a Jasper reman that the starter area on the block was busted from the little bracket missing...so I started robbing it for parts. They didnt re install the hold downs on the rocker shafts(bolt only,no concave washer) and cracked all the shafts. It appeared that they remanned the valves also,as the tip was ground off so much the locks were almost getting rubbed by the rockers on some of them. They only re installed a few of the vibration clips on the injector lines, some had rubbed together.I was always afraid of reman anything...I feel just rebuilt wasnt far from being just worn out....

I used to work on a lot of Olds diesels till they dried up. When rebuilt replacement engines for these were first available from GM, they were called Goodwrench engines; the first few were actually all new engines till enough used rebuild able cores filled their pipeline. A few years later, they had some vendor do the rebuilds under their name. I had one that broke a piston and tore it apart for usable parts. On an intact piston/rod assembly I saw that the company had severely peened the small end of one of the rods to shrink the wristpin hole to install a new bushing. Also it had the old style thin wall bushings that caused so many of these engines to come apart after bushing wore out and pistons started hitting cyl head. It should have had the new thick style that they also use in all the 6.2/6.5 models. I don't have much trust in many "rebuilt" engines because of that.

...always figured that if you got the money to buy a reman then you got the money to rebuild what you got yourself...jd

funny...some of those ran forever..some were just duds..no fuel/water sep. from factory...no training for gas motor techs at dealership level...gave 6.2/6.5s a bad name even tho a diff motor...I remember our techs, they looked at those engines like the were an alien life form or something...we had one come in with a bad noise once..tech revved it till it flew apart..handed me repair order bout an hr later and said"I think it needs a motor"
