Since i might need to do a way with my mechanical fuel pump when i get the turbo installed, I know i need an OPS and electric lift pump. Where is the OPS located on the 6.5? Also does it have a binary (either on or off) output to turn the lift pump on and off? Where can i splice in the OPS on my 6.2? I am getting a 6.5 heater/filter assembly, does it by any chance go on that?

The OPS on a 6.5 is a total pain in the $#@ to get to. Its stuffed back behind the glowplug relay and fuel filter. you need to be loosen the fuel filter assy to even get back there. Then after you do you cant turn a wrench more than 1/64th of a turn. You might have an easyer time with it than i did with all the space you have. There has to be a port somewhere that has oil pressure somewhere on a 6.2. Ill look in my manual today and see. you could always drill and tap your own hole if it were in the right place. im not sure how the switch works exactly NO or NC or what. Now i wish i would have disected my old one before i threw it away...

Well ive looked in the book, and i cant find any where that it says it is in a different location on a 6.2. Id look in the same place as the 6.5. if youre standing in the front of the truck its as far back just right of center as you can get. next to the firewall.
Here is a pic of where mine is...http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/6205/pic0097yr2.jpg I couldnt even get a clean shot of it with the fuel filter still bolted in. You get the general idea though.

Yes it is. Since it's in a CJ, hopefully he'll have more room than us. Since everything came off to pull my heads, I'm going to replace my OPS before I start rebuild (we all know Murphy!). Will the oil feed line for the turbo come from the same place on the 6.2 as the 6.5? If so, use a short pipe nipple and a pipe tee to plumb the OPS on the front of the engine and still run the feed line, OR, you can do the same thing on the rear of the block where the 6.2 oil gauge/light sender is, and mount the OPS AND supply an oil feed for the turbo!
The switch is NO. Oil pressure (engine running) closes the switch and provides power to the lift pump.
Hope this helps.

The OPSender on my 6.2 is in the same spot as my 6.5 on the back of the block left side behind the head. I get oil for the Banks turbo from a port down by the oil filter by the oil cooler lines.( the 6.5 gets it's turbo oil from a port on the right front of the block by the timing cover) Turbo oil returns to the fuel pump adapter plate that Banks gives you with the kit. The 6.5 returns to the same spot just there is no fuel pump there. Hope this clears things up.

Thanks for all the helpful info, I know the banks kit came with a special oil return plate for the fuel pump that still let you use the fuel pump. maybe i should ask gm for parts from an 1990 turbo 6.2, the banks kit was a factory option right? Or should i just call banks and tell them i need the parts from their kit?
After reading up more on it i guess my question has changed to: Is my OPS the same on the 6.2 as it is on the 6.5? are there two outputs one for the gauge sender and the other for the fuel pump? or is it just one output that gets wired to the fuel relay and the OP Gauge?
I believe my OPS just has one output on it. ALSO, the Fuel filter setup on the 6.5 sits right where my vacuum pump is, I think the thing is toast and don't need it for anything. Does anybody make a plate that will cover the hole the vacuum pump leaves? what's there on the 6.5?
BTW, i'm glad i found a 6.2/6.5 owner here because many of my questions are on the differences between the two engines.

The vacuum pump has a very important job in the 6.2 The half you can not see in the engine drives the oil pump! I think you might need that part? You will have to get a pump drive from a 6.5 If you need the room for a fuel filter.
Also the OPS on the 91 K1500 is just a 1 wire sender for the guage. You will have to use a 6.5 OPS if you want to run the fuel pump off it. Good Luck

I just saw something that might cause some confusion. christja and sixnickel have different lefts and rights. My left and right is as you sit behind the steering wheel no mater what. Thats the way it is in everything planes, boats(port and starboard), cars, trucks. A left front fender is a left front fender not a drivers side fender. In England a left front fender is a passenger side fender!

Yeah i can definitely see how that can be confusing. Thats why i usually try to stick with passenger and driver's side when talking about this type of stuff. I think for the most part we can all assume we are talking about US left (or is it your right?) hand drive vehicles unless otherwise noted.
Thanks for the info on the 6.5 OPS This is getting a bit more complicated then i thought it would, Right now i just have the vacuum pump capped off I hope its still driving the oil pump, Ill find a place to stick the filter/heater ive got tons of room under the hood.
Now, my options as i see them:
(1) Wire the fuel pump to ignition and keep in mind its on when i have the ignition on, don't play around.
(2) Wire the fuel pump to a switch on the dash
(3) get the 6.5 OPS and wire it in correctly
(4) try to buy/find/make a banks style manual pump plate. I can weld and fabricate and dont think it would be that hard to modify the pump plate to do what a banks plate does. Does anybody know any after market like part?
What would you guys do if you were in my situation? I emailed banks today and told them i need to buy parts from the 6.2 turbo kit and im awaiting their response.
