I have just noticed that my Vacuum pump is making noise and was wondering if we really need it. I know that the waste gate uses it but a mechanical controller would fix that. But what about the heater controls do they use vacuum. what about a electric vacuum pump for the heater contols. less drag on the engine with no pump. than that would mean finding a shorter serpintine belt. Is this possible, any one else ever think of this, any input would be great before it seizes. Thanks

I can't comment on the rest, but I know that there are belts available that will fit with pump removed. I'm new to this engine, but believe the vacume controlled waste gate was replaced in later years.

You dont technically need the vac pump on the 6.5 the AC dampers and such are mechanically controlled. The vac pump only attaches to the turbo waste gate valve on my vin f engine.

If the vacuum pump starts to fail does the vacuum start to fall. how much vacuum should be present at idle. could low vacuum be a problem for low boost pressure.

im thinking you should have at least 15 inches at the waste gate actuator. Right at the pump it should be 20 or more.
