I just purchased a new PMD and #9 resister from SS Diesel two weeks ago when my 97 K3500 started stalling out on the way home from work. I have been down this road before with the stalling, and knew right away the PMD was the problem. This is my 4th one. I ordered the PMD and #9 resistor and had it sent to me with overnight delivery. I was told on the phone by the nice lady at SS Diesel Supply that it would take 30 engine cranks and diving situations in order for the resistor to begin providing additional performance and gas mileage.

I asked the lady how does the resistor know that after 30 cranks to change the computer settings? She couldn't give me an answer...

Has anyone heard of such a thing? I'm just about to hit my 30th crank... and hoping my neck to snaps off....

How much performance should be expected by adding the #9 resistor?

FYI - the SS Diesel PMD and resistor, with overnight delivery, is much cheaper than going to your local Chevy/GMC dealer.

...neck snaps off it'll be because you fell down...the computor "counts"each power up{turning on the key}and periodicaly resets sensors and "soft"codes...the #9 resistor WILL change your fuel/torque rate but, you will notice this as easier starts-smoother idle-quicker{a little}acceleration..and slightly increased fuel milage...all good things...jd

Relearn is easy, disconnect the batteries, some say 30 minutes, could be 30 seconds, I'll test that as I have a code to remove. The #9 resistor will give you 6 % more power full thottle if it had a #5 resistor as original. That won't break you neck.
