I have a 1993 chevy that had a six five in it, what do the wires that go to the pump do?

They send a signal to the ECM to control the transmission shifts.

depends on which wires your referin to. As grancito stated there is a 3 wire pigtail for the throttle position sensor, you also have wires going to cold start advance solenoid, stepper motor to increase idle when cold start advance is on, and fuel shut off solenoid. Gonna have to be more specific on what wires your talkin about. (number and where they go on pump)

I forgot about those wires, like I forgot to take the plastic bags out of the inlet ports and cranked the engine over. Sucked part of some through the valves, got them out in the end. I need a vacation.

its not the tps, i already have that figured out, there are three on the top of the pump, that go straight to the pump itself.

Like JD said, one is fuel solenoid, should be the thick one, the others will be cold idle increase, and cold advance. It will run OK with the last 2 disconnected.

I could use a vaction too. Sounds as if you really need one too. Never thought to put plastic bags in cylinder to increase compression. But i guess if they are just gonna blow out the tail pipe then its only a quick bandaid to a low compression problem.
as to the real reason we are here. Big (14 ga ithink)red wire to a fairly large round thing on right side of pump (passenger side of truck) should be wire to fuel shutoff solenoid. Will not run at all if disconnected. Smaller red wire (18 ga) twords front of pump, kinda on top right side of pump , should be cold start advance. another red wire over twords left side of pump (drivers side of truck) goes into a round stepper motor thats bolted to injector pump is your cold idle advance. Truck will run fine with the last two disconnected.

If only I'd known about the bags!!! Maybe my engine wouldn't have blown up... Next time for sure!

The bags in the intake ports were to stop bolts and nuts going in while working on the engine, didn't really want polly coated pistons.

I was just giving you crap. I figured it was to keep stuff from falling in.

The bright side to poly coated pistons, poly is alot slicker that aluminum on steel. Less friction, longer life? better mpg? more rpm? You might be onto something grancito. LOL.
