Has anyone tried the extension hose for the OPS which is on Ebay for 25 bucks? Sounds like a good idea seeing how there is numerous problems with the OPS. I am planning a trip to upper Alaska and want to be prepared with anything that can go wrong that I can change in a few minuites. Starter, OPS,Alternater, PMD etc. The OPS needs a special Socket, I understand, from other threads and was wondering about this? Thanks

I just replaced an OPS on a 96 last week. It was an sob at first. We had an oil pressure socket that did fit but we were still unable to use it because the OPS leaned toward the intake runner. The intake runner was in the way and the socket could not fit down over the sensor. I eneded up taking a china
1-1/16" wrench and cutting it down. I cut both the open end and also the box end down to 4-1/2" each total length. Worked great and would be an excellent time saver. The extension hose is an OK idea but two imediate concerns for me. One the sensor would be allowed to bounce around and posibly contact hot surfaces and or break. I would tie the sensor off somewhere with zip ties. Also it is a hose that could be a potentail leak in the future. I already had seen the ad for the hose extension and had it in mind while changing my OPS sensor. I even checked the wire length to make sure if the hose was installed that it would reach all looked good. I thought about turning in a piece of black pipe with a coupling to stand off the sensor. Problem is the intake runner is still in the way. Also the fact that the angle the hose has to come off the block would also cause the hose to rub on the intake. Yet anouther concern with rubbing and vibration. Thats just my two cents.

I bought my OPS from Auto Zone for about $30.00. Also I would consider a spare lift pump Auto Zone ($82.00) and also a lift pump relay. Also should have spare fuel filter and maybe anti jelling additive for the fuel.

Thanks for all the info. I replaced the lift pump and kept my old one as a spare. I'll get a relay and I put anti gel in any way. As far as the help on the OPS removal I'll try the wrench idea. It's always nice the have those special tools. I checked with auto Zone and the OPS is now $79. I'll check with Walt. I agree that the rubber hose rubbing would or could be a desaster.

I just ran an 8" Grease gun Line ($7.00) with appropriate adapters ($4.00) to accept the OPS and had no issues with the removal of the OPS or relocating it.
I relocated the OPS to the Fuel Filter Management Bracket for easy access and installed a relay to help with it's functioning abilities.
Grease gun lines are rated for 5000psi so they will withstand the oil pressure no problem. I have seen guys running these for 6 years now.
