98 2500 6.5 acceleration issue

My buddy's 98 2500 ex cab shortbed 4x4 6.5 has a strange acceleration issue. If he stands on the skinny pedal as if to pass somebody, the engine surges making the truck really jerk. It just won't accel smoothly as we think it should. Any ideas on what it could be?

Sounds like a fuel issue to me. Check filters, check for places in lines where it's sucking air. Open t-valve on top of engine while it's running and make sure fuel streams out.

If it's an auto, maybe it's having trouble kicking down.

It is an auto and it shifts just fine. Is only when u put accelerator to the floor. It sounds exactly like the symptoms in the thread just under this one-Kick and bucks.
