I finally have my second car a 96 impala ss. I now have time to carefully work on my truck. first im going to drop m oil pan and put a new gasket on it. Should I go ahead and change the oil pump while Im at it? Also how can you tell if it has failed or if its going to?

If it's a high mileage Ya put one in. If the mileage is not crazy and oil pressure is good i would not worry about it. Also in my opinion if you want the pan to leak use a gasket!!! Permatex has a product called the Right Stuff, part # 25224 it is the only thing that should be used on the oil pan , valve covers, and timing cover on the 6.5 /6.2. This is the sealant that the factory uses building the engine. It's kinda like a super thick RTV with rubber chunks in it. The stuff works great and I had to learn the hard way about it. Build them with gaskets they leak !! Build them with the Right Stuff no LEAKS!!!

ever try Anerobic sealant? Permatex made, only place i can seem to find it on shelf is NAPA. Awsome stuff for holding gaskets in place, (think final drive housings on tractors) and makes excelent gaskets by itself. GM calls for its use on water pump gaskets on our 6.5's anyways. only downfall is $14 a tube.

My mileage on my truck is about a little over 140000 miles. its time for new plugs and injectors to. they were last changed by GM at 60-70 thousand miles. I had the injectors clogged up due to growth in my tank. So they replaced the injectors and had the tank cleaned. cost me almost 1700 bucks.
