I have done alot to my truck and am completely satisfyed with every after market thing I have added. I just dont here my turbo whistle like the new fords and cummins I hear. I have seen stupid whistles for rice burners to put in the exhaust but I have 4 inch stacks and dont see them working to well. Is there anyway I can get that loud whistle sound with my turbo when it spools up. I get 18 pounds boost so I see no reason to change turbo. I just want it to sing for me alot louder than it does. :(

I have a 95,mine won't really spool up,unless hooked to trailer pulling a hill. The turbo on our cheviies are smaller then the newer 6.5 and other makes. My son in law's 2000 6.5 has the larger turbo, his spools up just fine, still not like a powerstroke or cummins though. I drive a powerstroke in winter to plow snow. It's not mine so I can't add goodies to it,it doesn't spool with all the stock exhaust ,inlet baffle on air cleaner.Snorkle fiils up with snow in a blizzard. plowking

The exhaust housing on the gm series turbos is small. Up grade to a hx35 off a dodge and she'll to ya.

Adding walts intake kit will help add some turbo whistle. Beautiful part of our 6.5, they arent gutless trash untill the turbo spools up. I drive a joke at work and if the turbo aint screamin you aint gunna move. I dont like the sound or power of any powerjoke. (stock or modified). Turbo design and boost pressure will also change sound levels.

That's one thing I do miss about my 6.5. It's got that jump right from takeoff. But with the GM-8 and cone filter, it whistled good. Nothing like now, but believe me-this whistle is out of control, and about to get a muzzle.

the new powerstrokes cummins' and even duramax's have vgt turbos that sound like fighter jets with a nice opened exhaust. You can throw an he351ve from a 6.7 cummins on your truck if your desperate for that exhaust note. theres a vid of a 6.5 with one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3okOHAh8IuU

--- i can get ya one if your interested

I wanna know how they got the vgt to work with a stand alone control for it or do they have on? Last I checked there was no such kit.

you can use a waste gate controller driven by boost or drive pressure ( exhaust manifold pre turbo pressure). Alot of guys have the best luck controlling by filtered and regulated drive pressure for the smoothest collar operation. The reason these turbos are available so cheap is because the electronics fail or they jam up. dodges procedure says if theres a problem toss the turbo and replace it. basically the key idea here is simplicity and mechanical control to eliminate the "weak link" ie the electronic nonsense.

True you can use the manual waste gate to regulate boost preasure as with any turbo. But that has nothing to with the veriable geometry turbin(VGT). This is controled by electronics that open out or close in the vanes in the exhuast housing. There is a rod in the that does this so you would have to rig a manul switch. The only problem is if you leave them open it will create a lot of boost lag. If you leave it close it will restrict the air flow creating high EGT's. If you make a switch you will have to hit it every time you hit above 35 mph or so otherwise the EGT's will climb. Not worth it to me ill just use an hx35 and have simplicity and power.

i read in diesel power ( i think, last month?) a company eithre has, or is about ready to release to public stand alone controllers for VGT turbos.

I hope. When they are working they are very beneficial.

You can get an HE351 that isn't VGT. 03-04.5 at least had them. They got a tiny hot side and spool very fast. They're just as cheap as an HX35. This is all assuming your engine can handle the boost. My HX35 whistles loud at an idle. It's cool when you start the engine, you can hear the turbo spool up to a steady note.

if you take the cat off or resignator off or muffler it will scream thats wat i did with just cold air and didnt make much difference but ass soon as i cut the cat off it made a world of difference really if you have it take it off
