My 6.5l is having a hard time staying on after I crank it from a cold start. it stays on for only like 7-10 seconds then shuts off. after re-cranking it for 6-7times it stays on. Im thinking the glow plugs are bad. The glowplug light stays on for almost 10 seconds before i turn the ignition. So it cant be the controller can it. Even so im planning on changing the controller with the plugs anyway.

Does it start on all cylinders? or stumble and miss then stall?

i get a little rough start, some white smoke out the exhuast, everything smooths out then 7-10 seconds later stalls.

Since you're in Florida located, I don't think that the glowplugs or the controller is the problem. If so, the engine wouldn't start anyway. I would think that your problem is fuel related, ignition switch or FSO.

The first thing Im going to do is change the fuel filter. Then Im going to see if its tha lift pump. Ive heard if the engine stalls after opening the T-valve at the front of the engine the fuel pump has failed and needs to be replaced. Also what is an FSO? I Also am going to check the PMD also.

FSO Fuel shutoff solenoid. It stops fuel flow from goin to injectors, when you shut truck off. I was gunna suggest checking your OPS and lift pump. If it runs and then dies, and after cranking long time refires, sounds like your losin fuel pressure to ip. Most common casue of this is bad OPS (oil pressure sender/sensor) OPS controls lift pump when engine is running. Relay and ign switch run lift pump while your cranking engine.

I have one suggestion you could try. Next time the engine has been sitting over night when you think it may have a hard time starting, pull the fuel pump relay out from the underhood fuse block. Take a wire or thick paperclip and jump terminals 30 and 87 I think, my memory isn't so good. You can look at the bottom of the relay to figure out which terminal is which. Anyway, jump the terminal then turn the key on and see how it starts.

You can also jump the terminal and open the t-valve and see if the pump is pumping fuel with it off.

I will do that asap. Thank god for this forum. You guys on here problably saved hundreds of 6.5Ls from either being sold off or worst junked. I hated my 6.5L for years until I found this site. Thanks walt for the parts site and this forum.
