has anyone ever thought of going to a pick a part and scavenging parts to build their own JY intercooler? i think it would be a decent idea, and if anyone knows about any articles or anything on this, please inform me :P

Im going to go and give a reply since nobody else did:
All an intercooler does is cool the air after the turbo, if you use an air-air intercooler the cooler has to go in front of the radiator or somewhere up in front. An air liquid either needs its own fluid cooler and pump or use engine coolent. Pipe from the turbo to the intercooler then from the cooler to the intake plenum.
Take a look in the "Upgrades and Aftermarket" section there is a long thread on intercoolers there.

I have done several junk yard build ups with outstanding results. I used junk yard intercooler on one of them with no issues. You pretty much cant go too big on intercoolers. Find one that fits nice and plumb it up. Air to air is the way to go for a driver. The water stuff works great with an ice chamber on a race car, but the normal water to air is nothing worth writing home over.
