My Dually has been giving me the Hiccup again and a couple of days ago a no start situation. Let it sit overnight. Fired right up the next day. Getting code 35. I'm tired of buying IP's and PMD's. Last IP was installed March of 08. It was supposed to be the "latest" version and a "tank". I regretfully installed it with the PMD mounted back on the pump because I let a GM guy talk me into it because " if GM knew the mounting location was the problem, they would have recomended to relocate it on this newest version pump". Blah, Blah, Blah. Anyways, When it wouldnt start at all, I was getting 8 psi fuel pressure in front of the pump, and with a fuel injector line removed, when I would roll it over, it wouldnt even drip a drop. The OPS is brand new. The IP,PMD,and fuel shutoff vave were all replaced March 08. "Only about 10,000 miles ago". Since the no start situation, It has run fine with only a few hiccups here and there and an occational stall and restart. After 15 years I have decided to part with my old girl. :( She is currently for sale and I can only hope she will run fine when poeple come to test drive her. If she sells, I will let ya'll know as I will obviously not need troubleshooting advice anymore. Thanks in advance

I too have a '95 silverado dually 4x4 and I am getting a sort of hiccup with my truck. the PMD was replaced by the previous owner 1.5 months ago and is a stanadyne unit that was mounted back in it's stock location.

I have checked all fuel pressure at idle and while driving, changed air filter and fuel filter, replaced fuel lines and remounted my PMD to the front bumper as well as relocated the OPS and installed a relay to the OPS.

I am still experiencing hiccups with my truck and have recently gotten codes 25 and 35.

I am going to try a different make of PMD to narrow things down and if that does not work, I may be into an IP.

I have been told it could also be the APP (Electronic Fuel Pedal Assembly) which is where the DTC-25 may be coming from.

Either way tossing money at could be's and would be's is a pain in the ass. Some say IP and some say PMD, might as well be ABC for all i care as I am pissing in the wind trying to diagnose this one.

I have owned gas vehicles all my life and diagnosing has been pretty easy, trying to diagnose a diesel, that is a different ballgame.....

Looks like you may have struck out here 6.5 on da bayou, I am attempting a second base.....

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has had it up to the neck with these Issues. If I had a dollar for every time I had to turn wrenches on my Dually, I wouldnt be driving a Truck built in the 1900's. It has been very interesting as I have learned more about diesel engines these past 15 years than I ever planned on. Speaking of that Pedal Assy, thar was another part I changed prior to replacing the IP in 2008. All it did was eliminated a code, didnt make it run any better. I tried to get the local GM dealer to give me a summary of the repairs I had made while it was under warranty so I could pass on the history to the next guy. They said that they purge the system every 2 years or so and could only give me a copy of the last 2 or 3 work orders. But, he could see where there was a total of 39 work orders for my Dually. Are you kidding me, if any other car in the driveway had to go to the dealer 39 times for repair (not counting the countless times I worked on it), it would be considered a piece of s#!@. And we love these trucks why? The sad part about this is my truck has become completely unreliable. Good thing I have a brand new wrangler to rely on other wise I would have been fired a long time ago with all the "I'm running late" phone calls. Anyways...If anyone else has some input or would just like to vent a while on this string.....be my guest..

Totally Discouraged on da bayou.

well,i bought my 95 sierra and it was running great until the crank position sensor went out.to my surprise, there is a lot more to it tha the sensor going out, like a lot of play in the crank(see my water pump removal thread).to my dismay,i am seriously considering a gas engine swap.it might not be a walk in the park, but by the time i get it done,it would have cost less than a whole engine, whether it was used or new...

#35 PMD failure, 17 and 18, ijector pump failure. Try some additive and 2 stroke oil in the fuel, it could cure the problem.

Put it back together and run it, main bearing clearance is not that critical.

CoJo6.5T,

Are you still getting the hiccup after the PMD install or has it cleared? Did you get any codes prior to the PMD replacement?

if it's not too bad,i might do that...BTW,do you or anybody here have a front timing cover they want to sell?

Ok.......So heres what I did. I tried to start my Dually on Monday. It didnt start. So I reinstalled my FSD Heat sync with a module that I wasnt sure if it worked or not. I unplugged my module that was on the pump and plugged it into the one on the heat sync. Still no start. So then I tried a module that I got from Walt a while back that I'm pretty sure was working fine when I replaced the last IP. The new IP had a module so this one was a spare. Put it on the heat sync, plugged it in, fired right up. So to confirm the other module was bad, I plugged it back in and no start.(But I didnt hook it up to the Heat sync). Is that a propper way to rule a module good or bad. I didnt know if it has to be mounted to something. If anyone knows, let me know. I couldnt get the harness back on the module on the IP so I'm just gonna rule that one not usable. Sooooo..... it looks like the code 35 IS a module issue. But as of now she is running and FOR SALE.

If the PMD is not grounded, it won't work.

So what grounds it? The exterior looks mostly plastic. The bottom where those transistors are? If it needs to be grounded, what is the ground wire for? It doesnt get a good ground from the harness?

The bottom of it is metal, the ground wire is for the ECM to IP ground.

So....A bad connection between my heat sync and the upper intake cover could pose an issue in the future.....correct? So I guess I should make a ground wire that goes from the heat sync to a known good ground just as a precaution. How about were the ground wire for the ECM originally was....right there on the IP? Maybe Walt should add this to the kit if he hasnt already.

Hey Grancito, Where at in the bumper is your module? Where did you get an extention harness from? How long has it been there with no problems from your module (miles and years)?

Well Guys......Thanks for all of your help in all of the many issues that a had with my Dually. On this thread and all of the others as well. Not to mention the problems I solved by just reading other threads. This is truely the best way to gather otherwise impossible info to obtain. I sold my Dually this afternoon and I guess this an official good bye to all of you. Rest assure, I will send lost 6.5 souls this way should I encounter anyone with a 6.5 problem...........THANKS AGAIN.
