Anyone ever use an external auxiliary transmission filter? I read an article about them in 'Diesel World' and it seems that if I can add a kit for $100 or so that it is cheap easy insurance. They review the Magnefine and the Racor kits. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

I got one on mine, and I know it cost a lot less than $100. I can try and figure out what filter base and filter I used, otherwise it is just 3/8" trans cooler hose and a couple barb fittings. Just got it from carquest.

It is just in the cooler circuit, but still makes a difference.

...way g.m. "fixed" jatco transmission failures in npr trucks was to add an aux. filter "kit" consisting of a remote mounted{bolted to frame}filter head and a spin on filter...entire surface of filter disapates heat...don't mean to sound like a shill for napa but they're what I got in town ,look in napa filter book in back they have 2-bolt mount spin filter heads...and listings for different micron filters to use...plumb it in like an in-line cooler since thats what it is...

The filter used on an Allison is a 3/4"-16 thread. WIX makes a remote mount part # 24762 which has these treads I use Donaldson filters when ever I can and there filter number is P550222, the WIX number is 51622. For my tranny I took a piece of 3/16" flat strap iron and drilled the holes to accept the remote filter and on my tranny on the back right are two convent holes to mount the strap iron that holds my remote filter. I remove the output cooler line and adapter as the threads in the tranny are ¼” NPT. This is where I installed a ¼” brass closed nipple and a tee for my trans temp. I came off the tee to the remote with #6 stainless steel braded hose and used the adapter off the tranny to connect my braded stainless steel line from the remote back to the flare fitting on the cooler line. I also install an electric trans pressure gauge from Stewart Warner # 82136 on the return line at the tranny using the ¼” brass closed nipple and a tee.

FYI the Donaldson fuel filter is part # P550352
